McDonald’s Malaysia supports the government’s call for blood donation

This article is 4 years old

McDonald’s Malaysia, in continuous support of the government’s call to Malaysians to donate blood regularly, organised a Blood Donation Day on 13 and 14 August 2020. Held annually in collaboration with the National Blood Centre (NBC) under the Ministry of Health (MOH), the blood donation drive was opened to the public.

“Every year, the Blood Donation Day has been well-received and supported by the general public and staff of McDonald’s Malaysia. The close collaboration between McDonald’s Malaysia and NBC began four years ago. In line with the government’s call, McDonald’s Malaysia is keen to play an active role in creating continuous awareness among the community on the importance of blood donation. We targeted for 300 donors this year, and we are pleased to say that we surpassed our target by a mile,” said Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner, McDonald’s Malaysia.

Blood Donation Day held at the headquarters of McDonald’s Malaysia saw a turnout of more than 500 donors. There were 287 donors in 2019 and 208 donors the year before that.

“NBC welcomes the Blood Donation Day initiative by McDonald’s Malaysia, which is now in its fourth year in collaboration with us. Such workplace campaigns encourage the noble practice of blood donation among the employees of McDonald’s Malaysia. As the blood donation drive was opened to the public, NBC is confident that the campaign will create widespread awareness on the importance of blood donation, while encouraging the community to be blood donors. NBC wishes to congratulate McDonald’s Malaysia for consistently organising the blood donation drive and assures that blood donated during the 2-day campaign will be channelled effectively to patient care. NBC also hopes that similar blood donation campaigns and awareness programmes will be organised by other companies and associations, as carried out by McDonald’s Malaysia,” said Dr. Noryati binti Abu Amin, Director, National Blood Center.

As a token of appreciation, McDonald’s Malaysia gave away McDonald’s cash vouchers, McChicken meal sets, and Sundae Cones to all blood donors who turned up to donate blood.
