BookXcess pledges 13,000 books to the underprivileged to celebrate its 13th Anniversary
In conjunction with its 13th anniversary and the celebration of Merdeka and Malaysia Day, BookXcess — Malaysia’s leading alternative bookstore — embarks on a campaign with three non-governmental organisations from 18 August 2020 to 18 November 2020 under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, Red Readerhood. The Red Readerhood CSR campaign aims to collect and donate a total of 13,000 new English books to the underprivileged, in a bid to make knowledge accessible.
The 13,000 books will be equally donated to Red Readerhood’s collaborating non-governmental organisations (NGOs), which include The Book Effect — a project under Friends to Mankind, SOLS 24/7 — an award-winning humanitarian organisation established by its Malaysian founder Raj Ridvan Singh, and Buku Jalanan Chow Kit — an organisation that helps underprivileged children to escape the cycle of poverty in Chow Kit area.
“Our 13th anniversary marks a momentous milestone for us, and as a homegrown brand that
believes in making knowledge accessible for all, we’d like to celebrate it by helping those in need through a strategic partnership with the three renowned NGOs. In line with the spirit of Merdeka and Malaysia Day, we hope to open a new chapter for Malaysian readers by sustaining the efforts to help Malaysia become a Nation of Readers in the wake of the pandemic,” said Andrew Yap, Co-Founder of BookXcess Sdn Bhd. “Knowledge accessibility will insinuate hope within the hearts and minds of those in need and we are helping to build a new generation of intellects who will eventually carry the responsibility of building a better nation and society in the future,” he added.
“Here at BookXcess, it is our mission to make books accessible to all, spread the joy of reading, and increase English literacy. Red Readerhood is a firm believer that everyone regardless of status should have access to acquire knowledge through reading. Through Red Readerhood, brand-new English books are collected and donated to the underprivileged through a local organisation in support of their cause. With all the technology that exists in this day and age, people forget the value of a good book and how far literacy has taken the world,” said Jacqueline Ng, Co-Founder of BookXcess Sdn. Bhd.
During the five-month-long campaign, the public can join hands with BookXcess by donating brand- new books purchased at any BookXcess outlets nationwide. BookXcess will match each donation by the customers to hit the 13,000-book goal. To participate in the Red Readerhood CSR campaign, customers can visit any of the 9 BookXcess outlets.
