IJM Land Lighting It Up Early For The Underprivileged Families

This article is 4 years old

With the ‘Festival of Lights’ just around the corner, IJM Land is passionate to serve the Seremban community in extending a helping hand and spreading the festive joy and positivity to underprivileged families through their third ‘Deepavali Charity Cheer’ Programme.

Hoping to impart a culture of giving while also taking into account that the poor should not be neglected during festive seasons, IJM Land reached out to three underprivileged families who were in great need of help, where IJM Land provided monetary support of RM800, festive cookies and goodie bags consisting of grocery items including rice, cooking oil, flour, cookies and others worth RM700.

Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager of IJM Land said that we are constantly surrounded by those in need of our attention, support and kindness, therefore this initiative allows the less fortunate to come along as one family and celebrate this joyful occasion without worries.

“At IJM Land, it is our vision to be able to tap into different ways in extending our hand and giving back to the community in which we are living in. Our thoughts are always with the less fortunate all the time, especially during a time when they need more attention, care and love,” said Dato’ Hoo.

“With the current financial struggle felt by all - especially the underprivileged due to the pandemic - this has caused most households to rely on limited savings in order to provide for their family’s needs. This year, IJM Land is making this effort not only to bring positivity to the homes, but to also show compassion and spread goodwill as Malaysians.”

In addition to the monetary support and goodie bags distributed, Dato’ Hoo also allocated face masks and hand sanitizers to the families to alleviate their financial strain on compulsories needed by all to live in the new normal.

One of the recipients, Sirengayee 52-year-old, who doesn’t have a regular job relied on her husband who works as a maintenance worker to support their three children. IJM Land took this opportunity to provide a blood pressure monitor upon request to one of the children who is not only suffering from kidney failure since 2013, but is also handicapped.

IJM Land also aided two other recipients – Easwary, a 47-year-old single mother who had undergone thyroid surgery and living in absolute despair as she was unable to receive wages during MCO and struggling to support her three children. Maha Laxmi and her husband, Thivananthan are deprived financially since his retrenchment, and can only rely on irregular jobs to support the family of five.

Dato’ Hoo asserted that understanding the background and needs of these families enabled them to provide the necessary support and assistance for what they truly need.

“We strive to provide the best for our community by lighting up their lives. As the nation battles against the Covid-19 outbreak, we believe donating essential items such as face masks and hand sanitizers will help ease the burden of these families,” Dato’ Hoo concluded.
