Newspapers in education

This article is 3 years old

The Future of Academic Libraries

There’s been a dramatic change in the way people discover and access content — whether it’s videos, music, news media, or peer-reviewed journals. But it’s not just about smartphones and tablets versus printed newspapers, journals, and glossy magazines. It’s about immediacy, relevancy, experience, and trust. It’s about giving students, researchers, and faculty access to the most relevant information in a way that makes sense to them as individuals.

Providing Worthwhile Content for Today's Young and Hungry Minds

Today’s educational landscape is complicated. It’s fast-paced, busy, tech-led and multi-layered. The demands on our youth are high. School is competitive, social media and external organisations are all vying for the attention of our young people, and our sons and daughters are being constantly called upon to make decisions – decisions that can have lasting effects. But to make the best decisions, you must first be correctly informed. And to be correctly informed, you must be able to tap into a source that provides you with information and content you can trust. For many people, a newspaper for young readers may appear something of an add-on or, in some cases, a luxury. This could not be further from the truth. A well-written newspaper – be it digital or print – provides a platform for young readers to get inspired, become positive thinkers, and gain the confidence to grow into responsible young adults that are not afraid to choose right over wrong. Now, more than ever, we need to cater for the coming generations – in providing information, entertainment, guidance and wellbeing in a language they can relate to, and from a source they can trust. No, a newspaper for young readers is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
