Improving care in healthcare

This article is 3 years old

I experienced it first-hand as a patient for both public and private facilities, as I still remember how strenuous and unfriendly it was for me when I went for a regular check-up. After filling out many information columns on the non-user friendly form, I had to wait without knowing how long the wait is or what is next, inside the clinic with other patients who are sick and vulnerable, which could potentially increase the risk of cross-infection. In a nutshell, it was an unpleasant experience and this story is merely a speck of those who wanted to get proper medical services.

This experience isn’t exclusive to non-medical professionals like us but also to those who are in the medical field. Dr. Kev Lim, the co-founder, and CEO of QueueMed Healthtech faced the same unpleasant experience whenever he had to bring his daughter for checkups on her underlying medical condition. Frustrated with the experience, he decided to embark on a new mission - improving delivery of service in the healthcare industry.

Dr. Kev Lim.

He co-founded QueueMed together with Dr. Tai Tzyy Jiun and Nicholas Tai to create solutions to address issues faced by the medical providers in providing the best care to their patients. The most popular module is QueueMed’s online appointment and mobile queue system - patients can book their appointments online anywhere they are, receive an online booking or queue ticket and automatic reminders. The module has been implemented in more than 180+ government clinics and 200+ private clinics and hospitals in Malaysia.

The inevitable challenge that the CEO of QueueMed faced was the reluctance of both patients and providers to adopt digital solutions and transformation. Despite the significant progress in digital adoption during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kev still believes that there is a lot of room for improvement in the healthcare industry and hopes that QueueMed will become the industry’s trusted partner in its digital transformation. The company partnered with clinic chains such as Qualitas Health, Dahlia Medical Group, and hospitals such as Kek Lok Si Charitable Medical Center and Hospital Pakar An-Nur.

QueueMed has served over 1.5 million patients ever since it started in early 2019 and integrated with patients’ digital solutions such as MySejahtera app. Currently, QueueMed is assisting the national COVID-19 vaccination program with their mobile queue module and the company is in the midst of creating more modules for other medical providers in the ecosystem and building a patient-centric solution in the near future to bridge the gap between doctors and patients. In the long run, Dr. Kev aspired to make QueueMed the healthcare aggregator that streamlines the entire patient’s journey.
