BEST introduces new consolidated cross-border logistics service for Southeast Asia

As pre-sale promotions for “Double 11” – China's biggest annual online shopping festival, kicked off – BEST Inc. (NYSE: BEST) (“BEST” or the “Company”), a leading integrated smart supply chain solutions and logistics services provider in China, today announced its new consolidated cross-border logistics service for Southeast Asian consumers buying from Chinese e-commerce platforms.

The new service is being introduced to specifically meet the needs of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, among whom China’s major shopping websites – including Taobao, JD.com, and Pinduoduo – are increasingly popular.

While online purchasing for these customers is easy, paying a delivery fee on each individual package can be difficult to swallow. With BEST’s new service, however, customers in Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and Cambodia can now place orders across various shopping websites and/or stores in China and only pay for one consolidated package, with an end-to-end delivery fee starting from RMB 7 (US$1.1) per kilogram.

“For many years, ‘Double 11’ is when I buy clothes online for Spring Festival, as shopping websites have far more selection than the local malls,” says Peny Chin, from Malaysia, who already has a dozen items of clothing in her cart.

From Nov. 11, Peny will be able to have her packages delivered as one. The individual packages will first arrive at BEST’s warehouse in southern China before they are then consolidated into a single package. After clearing customs, the consolidated package will be sent to her apartment in Kuala Lumpur as soon as the very next day.

Since 2020, BEST has offered express delivery services in Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and Cambodia. As of the second quarter of this year, BEST’s networks in the five countries boasted 29 sortation centers and over 1,300 service stations. Its last-mile delivery services in Southeast Asia allow customers to track their package all the way to their doorstep.

BEST’s exploration of business opportunities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economies is in line with the trend of growing trade between China and the regional bloc since the initial outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to China’s General Administration of Customs, in the first three quarters of 2021, China's trade with the ASEAN region reached RMB4.08 trillion (US$632.4 billion), up 21.1% year-over-year, and accounting for 14.4% of China's total foreign trade.

BEST’s data shows the top consumption categories in Southeast Asia are clothing, household goods, electronic devices, and packaged food, with not only individuals but small wholesalers also using China’s major e-commerce platforms.

He Jing, from China, started a kitchen appliance import business in Bangkok, Thailand, last year after noticing Thai people were cooking at home more during the pandemic lockdowns. By wholesaling products from Chinese websites and reselling them on local e-commerce platforms, He has gained a sturdy foothold toward future success.

“I always use a number of different sites when purchasing products, so the consolidated door-to-door delivery service helps save me time and money,” says He, adding he plans to add a number of categories in women’s accessories into his business soon.
