BOH wins Brand of the Year 2021-2022 at World Branding Awards

This article is 3 years old

BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd (BOH), Malaysia’s leading tea grower and much loved tea brand, has been awarded the Brand of the Year 2021-2022 for the Tea category at the premier London-based World Branding Awards.

Known as the ultimate global brand recognition accolade, the Awards recognises the world’s best brands for their work and achievements. Winners are judged based on brand valuation, public online voting and market research.

BOH attributed this esteemed win to BOH tea lovers “who continue to inspire the brand to spread the Ummph experience through a good cup of BOH tea. Ada BOH, Ada Ummph is a phrase synonymous with BOH tea and reflects its distinctive, robust and aromatic range of teas,” said Aina Ramly, Deputy Head of Marketing, BOH Plantations.

Malaysia’s Tea Legacy

With a legacy dating back to 1929, BOH was first established by J.A. Russell, a far-sighted entrepreneur who noticed the demand for high quality tea and procured a tract of land 1,500 metres above sea level in Cameron Highlands, one of the country’s most fertile agricultural areas. There, he established the first BOH tea garden and, as they say, the rest is history.

Today, more than 90 years later, the Russell family carries on his vision.

Among the few companies in the world which grows, processes, packs and markets its own brand of authentic highland teas, BOH delivers its teas fresh from ‘tea bush to tea cup’ and has received many accolades for its high standards in product quality.

BOH owns 1,200 hectares of tea gardens and produces over 4.5 million kilograms of tea annually or 5.5 million cups daily. Over the years, BOH’s has grown its range teas from single garden teas to specially-crafted blends to cater to different preferences and tastes of Malaysians and tea lovers from around the world.

BOH’s delectable tea selection include Cameronian Gold Blend, Garden Teas, Malay Herbs, Seri Songket and Spa Infusions. Many of these selections are also specially packaged as unique gift items. Aside from its renowned Black Tea range, BOH also offers Flavoured Tea, Green Tea, Herbs and Fruits, Ice Tea Mix, Instant Tea Mix and Single Origin Tea.

A Sensorial Experience

Up in Sungei Palas, Cameron Highlands, BOH offers a truly unique sensorial ‘tea discovery’ experience at its award-winning BOH Tea Centre. A renowned attraction to many local and international travellers, they can enjoy a truly relaxing time at the terraces sipping a cup of fresh BOH tea up in the cool highlands as they take in the captivating panoramic views of the plantation. Visitors usually frequent the BOH Shop to take home their favourite BOH tea before leaving.

Also known as Home of BOH, the BOH Tea Centre was refurbished two years ago with an addition of a new wing called Tristan’s Terrace in honour of BOH’s former long serving Chairman. With this new extension, it can accommodate more visitors, offer enhanced facilities overlooking the beautiful panoramic view of the plantations and value add to the tourism opportunities for Cameron Highlands.

Giving Back to Mother Nature

“As a tea producer, BOH recognises that we owe our livelihood to the fertile soil and cool climate of Cameron Highlands which is highly suited to tea cultivation. Hence, sustainability remains a core value of BOH’s business. We are consistently adopting more eco-friendly business practices and ensuring our tea packaging utilise more recyclable and biodegradable materials to reduce wastage and safeguard the environment. BOH packaging is progressively changing to a tear box structure which eliminates the use of plastic shrink wrap. Our sachets are also made of easily recyclable materials,” added Aina.

BOH’s Corporate Responsibility programmes also include supporting environmental and animal conservation. The brand has collaborated with several environmental non governmental organisations and advocates such as the Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre (TRCRC), Global Environment Centre (GEC), WWF-Malaysia and Malaysia Nature Society (MNS) to support sustainability initiatives and encourage the public to increase conservation efforts within their own communities.

In support of the arts, BOH has been the title sponsor of the long standing BOH Cameronian Arts Awards since the award’s inception.
