IJM Land giving a roaring new year to five underprivileged families in Seremban

This article is 3 years old

Emulating the spirit of the Tiger, leading developer of Seremban 2, IJM Land Berhad is determined to create a meaningful start to the Lunar New Year by making a positive impact to five underprivileged families in Seremban. Through IJM Land’s annual Chinese New Year Charity Programme, IJM Land lends a helping hand to aid and impart courage to these families who have been struggling to make ends meet during this challenging time, while giving them the opportunity of celebrating the festive season contentedly.

Through one of their previous CSR initiatives, Bantuan Baucar Sara Hidup, IJM Land identified and approached five underprivileged families (especially those of single parentage and individuals who lost their jobs or struggling financially) to provide the much-needed monetary support and daily necessities that will help them in their preparation for the Chinese New Year season and also other necessary commitments such as utility bills and family necessities - providing them with the stepping stone to get back up on their feet to some semblance of financial recovery after the pandemic.

Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager of IJM Land (Central Region) stated that as the pandemic has already put majority of Malaysians in an arduous position both financially and emotionally, with Chinese New Year just around the corner, disadvantaged Malaysians will be apprehensive to celebrate as they have to choose between their commitment of celebration or paying the bills - leaving them with worries and burden even before the festive season.

“With the restrictions loosening and most are eagerly waiting for the celebration, we realised that this is not the case for underprivileged families as they are torn between preparing for Chinese New Year and having to commit to other priorities such as paying their outstanding bills and putting food on the table. This year, we want to make a difference and bolster our efforts to ensure that they don’t have to choose between their culture and commitments, and still be able to enjoy a joyous festive celebration with relief,” said Dato’ Hoo.

Led by Dato’ Hoo and the team of IJM Land, each family was given an ‘Ang Pao’ blessing of RM1,200 and box of kindness encompassing Covid-19 essential supplies and grocery items including rice, cooking oil, flour, cookies and other necessities worth RM300 to provide the families with a decent celebration. Among the recipients of the Chinese New Year Charity Programme were Madam Lee Yet Yun, a 41-year-old single mother who is currently struggling to pay their three-months overdue utility bills and support the heavy daily expenses of her seven children (with one of them suffering from learning deficiency); Mr. Chap Kai Fai, 42, a single father to two children who was deeply affected by the pandemic with the loss of his job and currently working as a Grab Driver with an unstable monthly salary; and Madam Au Yang Kar Yan, 36, a single mother suffering from mental disorder and struggling to take care of her toddler.

“Ever since the pandemic started, IJM Land has been striving to become a pillar of hope and strength for the underserved community, and we are imbued with the solid mission to ease their journey through difficult times. This Chinese New Year, we want to instil the community with the courage and resilience similar to that of the tiger, as we believe everyone can come out stronger so long as help is given whenever it’s needed. We at IJM Land will never leave one of our own behind; the community is our family and their well-being will always be protected as much as IJM Land can give,” Dato’ Hoo asserted.

As part of their Community Investment Policy, IJM Land is dedicated to support and uplift the lives of the underprivileged community in Seremban. Since 2010, IJM Land has launched various community programmes that have benefitted more than 600 families in Negeri Sembilan, such as Home Rehabilitation Programme (myHome), Program Mesra Ramadan, Deepavali Charity Cheer Programme, Bantuan Baucar Sara Hidup, Preschool Subsidy Programme, Helping Hands: Homes Initiative, to name a few.
