Daehan Rehabilitation Hospital Putrajaya Uses Neofect Smart Board

This article is 2 years old

Daehan Rehabilitation Hospital Putrajaya is a private hospital that specialises in treating patients with neurological disorders and illnesses—using a South Korean style integrated rehabilitation systematic approach.

To optimise patient outcomes, advanced technological equipment is sometimes used according to the recommendation of Daehan’s therapists. One such equipment is the Neofect Smart Board, a high-tech medical device that helps patients train and improve the functional reach and muscle control of their shoulder and upper arm.

It is often used to treat patients who have/had:

  • Stroke

  • Poor upper limb function

  • Traumatic head injury

  • Cerebral palsy (CP)

  • Parkinson’s disease

  • Quadriplegia (paralysis from the neck downwards)

  • Muscle weakness due to immobilization (such as from strict bed rest)

  • Post upper limb trauma or fracture

  • Cognitive impairments

Rehabilitation can sometimes be tedious, strenuous, and boring—which is why the Neofect Smart Board is a novel way of combining fun and functionality. Patients will have their affected arm strapped to a board and participate in fun training games. As they “play”, they will be performing key arm exercises that can improve joint movement range and control ability.

Rest assured, the equipment automatically adjusts the game’s difficulty level to suit the patient’s current mobility status. This allows for customised and personalised training.

In addition, it offers a data-based evaluation programme based on how patients perform three tasks: free exploration; point-to-point reaching; and shape drawing. Once the evaluation is done, tracking data and quantitative evaluation indices will show on-screen—helping Daehan’s therapists track the patient’s progress for the best results.
