Daehan Rehabilitation Hospital Putrajaya Empowers Children With Special Needs

This article is 2 years old

In 2019, the Malaysian Education Ministry registered 87,574 students with special education needs. Yet, the services and policies to support them, their families and communities are sorely lacking. In fact, a UNICEF Malaysia study found that 1 in 3 Malaysians believe children with disabilities should be kept hidden.

Daehan Rehabilitation Hospital Putrajaya is spearheading change in this regard as they strongly advocate for awareness and helping children with disabilities maximise their full potential with the help of revolutionary treatments.

They offer a comprehensive South Korean approach integrated rehabilitation services specialising in the management of neurological disorders and illnesses in children that include:

Physical disabilities

  • Cerebral palsy, other genetic disorders and rare diseases

  • Spina bifida

  • Congenital muscular torticollis

  • Neuromuscular disorder

  • Stroke

  • Spinal cord injury

  • Post head injury

Developmental disorders

  • Autism spectrum disorder

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder

  • Learning disabilities

  • Global developmental delay

Speech disorders

  • Speech and language delay

  • Nonverbal language deficits

  • Oromotor dysfunctions

For now, Daehan offers physiotherapy; occupational therapy; hydrotherapy; cognitive therapy; speech language therapy; machine therapy; functional electrical stimulation (FES) therapy; and will soon introduce gaming therapy. Beyond that, should there be a need, they also provide custom-made thermoplastic splints, mobility aids, wheelchairs, and adaptive devices.

For concerned parents who know all too well that managing children with special needs requires a special touch, rest assured, Daehan’s doctors are well trained in that aspect. A multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation medicine doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech language therapists work together to not only ensure your child’s physical wellbeing, but also support their emotional, mental, and social needs.

While there may not be a cure for certain diseases or conditions, it’s important to note that treatments can be life changing. They are imperative to manage symptoms and prevent further complications.

At Daehan, programmes are specifically designed to be functional and heavy on task-specific training to help your child develop their abilities and live their lives to the fullest.

No child should ever be left behind.
