Pursue your accounting profession with Taylor’s College

This article is a year old

Graduating from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) can lead to a wide range of long-term career prospects in the accountancy and finance-related profession, as it is one of the oldest accounting bodies and a globally recognised qualification. While there are many paths to becoming an accounting professional, ACCA Foundation in Accountancy (ACCA FIA) Top Achiever Xander Wong and Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Top Achiever Jenny Ho from Taylor’s College chose these pathways after much research. Currently at Taylor’s College, the fastest pathway for a high school graduate to being a chartered accountant would be to do the one-year ACCA FIA programme and thereafter 2.5 years to complete the ACCA programme.

Xander has recently completed the one-year ACCA FIA programme. For the September 2022 examination session, he was delighted to be ranked Top in Malaysia and Second in the World in the Maintaining Financial Records Paper. “As ACCA FIA is 100% exam based, the rigorousness of the course can sometimes be challenging. However, with sufficient preparation and support from my lecturers and friends, I was able to do well and achieve the award. My lecturers were very helpful and the sharing of knowledge with my friends made it easier to understand the concepts and conventions of accounting,” he said.

With pastoral care at the core of Taylor’sphere, his experience learning in a conducive environment with passionate academicians has supported Xander throughout his time studying ACCA FIA at Taylor’s College. He added, “The facilities at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus are just right for studying and enjoying your higher education life.” He aspires to pursue his passions in the business field after completing the programme and gaining work experience with a strong foundation in the subject matter.

For Jenny, even though she did not take the accounting paper for SPM, it did not stop her from pursuing the accounting profession as she would like to help with the family business or even start her own. Like Xander, the nurturing support system at Taylor’s was very helpful for her as the lecturers take time to explain everything in detail even after class hours. “What also helped is the facilities at the campus. My favourite space is the self-study area which is open 24/7 to help me concentrate especially during examination periods, “ she said.

Jenny has recently completed her first 9 ACCA papers at Taylor’s College and will be completing her final four papers at Birmingham City University (BCU), United Kingdom in September. This is a transfer pathway exclusively available at Taylor’s College, where students can complete their final four papers overseas. Furthermore, if students choose to head to BCU, they will receive an exclusive pass to BCU’s Master’s Programme after completing the final four papers if they would like to further their studies.

Jenny received World Prizes in the Foundation in Audit and Foundation in Taxation papers for the December 2021 examination session during ACCA FIA, and the Malaysian Prize in Audit and Assurance paper for the December 2022 examination session during ACCA.

To nurture more young accountants like Xander and Jenny, Taylor’s College is offering the ACCA Titans Package to students who wish to enrol in ACCA or ACCA FIA. There are two categories, the Taylor’s Young Accountant Scholarship, offering students up to 100% tuition fee waiver for ACCA FIA and ACCA FIA external exam fees; and the Excellence Award which offers students up to 35% tuition fee waiver for ACCA and ACCA FIA programmes. Both packages include complimentary book resources and upskill courses.

Both Xander and Jenny are scholarship recipients during their time at Taylor’s College. To join in Xander and Jenny’s footsteps in pursuing an accounting profession at Taylor’s College and to know more about the ACCA Titans Package, please visit here.
