This article is a year old

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - The 2nd episode of "GenZ @ The Podium," will be centered around the topic of legalizing cannabis for medical use in Malaysia. This event is specially curated for young individuals aged between 18-25 years old and its main objective is to provide a platform for informed discussions and empower the voices of the future generation.

Scheduled to take place on a metaverse platform, "GenZ @ The Podium" will be joined by 20 youths all around Malaysia as well as YB Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching and YB Wong Shu Qi, Member of Parliament for Kluang. Together they will delve into the pressing matter of cannabis legalization in the medical sphere. As Malaysia contemplates potential changes to its cannabis laws, this debate seeks to facilitate a comprehensive exploration of the subject from various perspectives.

The debate event will commence with the youth presenting their statements, followed by the politicians opinions on whether Malaysia should or should not legalize cannabis for medical use. Below are some facts on medical cannabis from other countries:

In the United States, 36 states have legalized medical cannabis, with 18 states allowing recreational use as well. These legalizations have been driven by extensive research indicating the potential benefits of cannabis in treating various medical conditions, such as chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and chemotherapy-induced nausea.

Canada legalized medical cannabis nationwide in 2001, leading to improved access for patients and stimulating research into its medical efficacy. The country has since witnessed positive outcomes in terms of patient care and quality of life.

Israel has emerged as a global leader in cannabis research, pioneering advancements in the field and showcasing the therapeutic potential of medical marijuana in the treatment of conditions such as Parkinson's disease, Crohn's disease, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The debate will provide a platform for young people to voice their opinions on this important issue and engage in meaningful dialogue with policymakers. Besides, it is an opportunity for youth debaters to showcase their skills and knowledge on critical issues affecting their lives.
