KOPETRO forms strategic collaboration with Gading Kencana, a pioneer in the renewable energy sector

Putrajaya, 26 June 2023 - Koperasi Kakitangan PETRONAS Berhad (KOPETRO), through its subsidiary, KOPETRO Trading Sdn. Bhd. establish a strategic partnership with Gading Kencana Sdn Bhd, a renowned company in the renewable energy sector in Malaysia, in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony held at The Everly Hotel.

Gading Kencana is a pioneering company in the renewable energy sector in Malaysia and was established in 1993. Since its establishment, Gading Kencana has grown rapidly in the market of solar lights, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, as well as introducing other services such as energy audits, environmental consulting, large-scale solar farm development, mini hydro power plants and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

According to the Chairman of KOPETRO, Roslan Abdul Rahim, the collaboration with pioneering companies in the renewable energy sector aims to promote the use of clean and sustainable energy solutions such as solar power, in line with global efforts to control the impact of climate change and switch to renewable energy sources.

“This partnership will leverage Gading Kencana's expertise as a renewable energy expert who will support KOPETRO in promoting the Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 initiative in Malaysia through the Solar Rakyat product brand to cooperative members. The signing of this understanding is also to increase awareness and facilitate the installation of solar PV systems among KOPETRO members," said Roslan.

The MoU ceremony witnessed Wan Ahmad Tarmizi Wan Abd Rahman, Chairman of KOPETRO Trading Sdn. Bhd., exchanged the MoU document with the Managing Director of Gading Kencana, Dato' Ir. Muhamad Guntor Mansor Tobeng.

The partnership between KOPETRO and Gading Kencana provides facilities for more than 15,000 members of the cooperative to install solar PV systems; a system that produces electricity from solar power, and encourages them to switch to solar energy as a solution, while reducing the use of electricity and the cost of traditional energy sources.

Established over 40 years ago, KOPETRO comprises more than 15,000 PETRONAS employees and its subsidiaries is recognized as one of the top 10 cooperatives in Malaysia. In 2022, KOPETRO was honored with the prestigious Best Brand award, The BrandLaureate SMEs BestBrands Award, in the Leisure - Holiday Solutions and Tourism category.

In 2020, KOPETRO achieved two esteemed awards: the SMEs Bestbrands e-Branding Awards by The BrandLaureate and the Lang International Corporate Titan Awards - Cooperative Icon of The Year 2020.

Recently, KOPETRO launched an online platform called proLindung, which enables users to renew their road tax and vehicle takaful (insurance) more easily, quickly, and securely. More interestingly, KOPETRO is offering a discount of RM50 for the first 50 customers that renew their vehicle tax and insurance through their website www.proLindung.com.my.

In addition to Membership and Financial Services, KOPETRO is also involved in the field of Travel and Leisure, Food and Beverage as well as Trade and Retail Services, in addition to the Shariah-compliant pawnbroking service, ArRahnukita, which started their operations since 2021.
