Cruising Putra Team from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Precinct 11(1) [SMKPP11(1)] successfully organized a Recycling Used Cooking Oil Community Program at PRIMA Apartments Precinct 11, Putrajaya on 28 October 2023. The idea was initiated by 4 students from SMKPP11(1) who represent Putrajaya in the Toyota Eco Youth competition 2023/2024 at the national level.

Toyota Eco Youth Program is a collaborative effort between UMW Toyota Motor and the Ministry of Education, to cultivate environmental awareness and encourage respect for the environment among youth in secondary schools. This initiative has been well received by over 200 residents that participated in the event and collected more than 630 kilograms of used cooking oils. The collected used cooking oils were exchanged for RM3.00 per kilogram.

The team under the guidance of teacher advisor, Cikgu Ibtisam Binti Ostham has successfully achieved its main objective: to create awareness on the importance of recycling used cooking oil to protect the environment together with Petronas Putrajaya 1 station, PRIMA Apartment Corporation Management and the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation Putrajaya (SWCorp). The collection of used cooking oils can also help in the preparation of raw material stocks to produce new high-value environmentally friendly products such as SAF biofuel after reprocessing. The program which was supported by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) highlighted the benefit of recycling used cooking oil to be used as sustainable aviation biofuel (SAF).

Cruising Putra Team will be presenting their project at the exhibition and closing ceremony of Toyota Eco Youth on the 21 – 23 January 2024 in Putrajaya.
