SM Sains Labuan represent WP Labuan at Toyota Eco Youth 2023/2024 National Competition
WP LABUAN – A group of four members, known as Excel YV from SM Sains Labuan, led by Mohammad Danial bin Amran, is conducting research on Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) as part of the Toyota Eco Youth competition. HHW comprises household products such as used cooking oil, paints, and used batteries, which pose significant dangers to both human health and the environment but are often underestimated and ignored.
Their primary objective is to raise awareness about HHW within the community, spanning from the youth to the elderly. Proper disposal of HHW requires specialized procedures and expertise to manage this hazardous waste. To achieve their goal, they've initiated several efforts. Their major project, the 1-Day Household Hazardous Waste Collection in Kampung Bebuloh, W.P. Labuan was conducted on November 11, 2023. This project involves collaborations with agencies such as the Department of Environment W.P. Labuan and the Fire Department of Rancha-Rancha. Additionally, they've organized morning talks about Household Hazardous Waste at their school, Sekolah Menengah Sains Labuan.
The team is hopeful that they can aspire to the community and hopes that their efforts to instigate long-term change, and to foster a healthier and improved community. They firmly believe that any effort, no matter how small, toward environmental conservation is invaluable.
