Vale in Malaysia Announces Recipients of the Second Batch of the Teluk Rubiah Scholarship Programme (TRSP)

Vale is renewing its commitment to supporting Manjung’s human capital development by continuing its flagship Teluk Rubiah Scholarship Programme (TRSP) for the second batch. The programme, first launched in 2022, provides the most exceptional Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) from the Manjung district with full scholarships to complete their tertiary education in a world’s Top 100 university the areas of Engineering and Commerce. 

Upon the conclusion of a rigorous process that includes academic, co-curricular and personality screenings, three straight-As students from across Manjung were selected as TRSP’s second batch recipients. An’Nur Aliya Maisarah and Mohamad Norhikmal Aizad will pursue a degree in Commerce, while Ho Ju Xin, will be studying Engineering.

Leonardo Paiva, CEO of Vale in Malaysia, believes that the continuation of the TRSP programme is in line with Vale’s commitment to fostering a sustainable community development in Manjung. “TRSP, which forms an integral component in our Community Development Plan for Manjung, is a strategic initiative that allows us to develop high-potential youth in Manjung towards becoming world-class talent that can truly transform the mining industry towards a more sustainable future.”

Recipients of the second batch of TRSP are expected to commence their Foundation studies at Sunway University in August, before pursuing their degree in Monash University.

A bibliophile who enjoys fiction novels, An’Nur Aliya Maisarah mentioned “I applied for the programme after obtaining my SPM results in 2023 and was thrilled when I received news that I was successful in the assessments and interviews. I look forward to seizing this opportunity to gain experience and shatter the glass ceilings that hold me back” said the Manjung-born lass who went to SMK Ahmad Boestamam. 

With a passion for gaming and tech, Mohamad Norhikmal Aizad added, “I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to channeling these learnings to my personal and professional development.”

Ho Ju Xin, an accomplished young pianist, looks forward to realizing her dream of becoming a mechanical engineer through the scholarship. “I hope that my success in securing the competitive scholarship encourages future candidates to have faith in their own abilities, even when faced with challenging odds.”

The scholarship programme is designed to improve the talent landscape in the community by providing the best opportunity for the deserving local youth who have exhibited great potential. Together, they will lead Manjung towards a future that is more sustainable, equitable and just,” Leonardo concluded.
