MP SPEAKS | Najib's son draws a false analogy
MP SPEAKS | Mohd Nizar Najib claimed that his father, former prime minister and Pekan MP Najib Abdul Razak, was unduly victimised until he got sent to prison.
Is he trying to drive home that his father was unlawfully convicted by all nine judges?
According to Nizar (above), there is a considerable resemblance between his father and the Prophet Yusuf/Joseph and former South African president Nelson Mandela, respectively.
In my view, his analogy was manifestly erroneous. From a religious perspective, we may call it qiyas maal fariq or a false analogy!
To begin with, Prophet Joseph never committed a crime, let alone a crime of corruption, breach of trust, or money laundering.
For the record, Prophet Joseph voluntarily served his prison sentence despite being unlawfully maligned.
His "only crime" was probably being too handsome, so much so he was accused of crimes of passion.
Having served his unlawful prison term, he was, in turn, appointed as a finance minister in Egypt to salvage the economic woes faced by Egyptians at that time.
As far as Mandela is concerned, he was a freedom fighter par excellence who bravely fought against the apartheid regime.
And he never misappropriated state funds, let alone got involved in a mega scandal or kleptocracy!
Mandela fought for his people. He never stole from them. Therein lies the fundamental difference.
Be that as it may, it is fallacious to draw a resemblance between his father and Mandela, let alone the Prophet Joseph.
