The Election Handbook - Find your candidates and their manifestos

This article is 2 years old

Who are the candidates for your constituency? What are their coalitions promising?

The Kini News Lab interactive GE15 guide covers a wide range of topics related to the election.

In today’s issue, we want to focus on the candidates and manifesto comparisons to help you make up your mind before you head to the ballot box.

Explore the Candidates page to find out which party won the seat in GE14, who is the incumbent party, and the GE15 candidates in your constituency.

You might see that the colours on the map change as you switch between “GE14” and “Incumbent”. This means that the party allegiance of the incumbent candidate was not the same as the party that won the majority votes in GE14.

For example, Dato' Haji Mohd Fasiah represented Umno and won the seat in GE14 but he joined Bersatu in 2020. Hence, the Sabak Bernam constituency present two different colours in GE14 and Incumbent.

Sabak Bernam GE14 Winner - BN (Umno).

Sabak Bernam Incumbent - PN (Bersatu).

The candidates for this GE15 are listed on the right under the constituency. For Sabak Bernam, the candidates are: Idris Md Yusof, Abd Rahman Bakri, Kalam Salan, and Shamsul Ma’arif Ismail.

Now that you know the candidates that are contesting in your constituency, do take the time to read the manifesto comparison guide which compiled pledges made by the three major coalitions (PH, PN and BN).

The election manifesto is an important document because it allows voters to look back and evaluate if a party has fulfilled what we as the voters have mandated them to do at the ballot box.

For easy reference, the pledges are summarised and organized into different categories. You may skip to the topics that are relevant to you by scrolling the top menu bar and selecting the category of your choice.

If you click on the “Read Manifesto” button in the bottom right corner, you will be able to read the full document from the coalitions.
