Education as Entertainment: Social Media Sensations ‘Bold Enough to Stream’
In conjunction with UTAR 20th Anniversary, 126 students from UAMP2033 Event Management, Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Public Relations from the Department of Public Relations, Faculty of Arts and Social Science are conducting an event called ‘BOLD Enough to STREAM’ (BETS) - The Positioning of Public Relations (PR) Programme. The PR undergraduates mark the new pivotal moment as the initiative debuts a talk show on social media. From a modernised approach than the traditional educational programme, BETS is looking to double down on efforts to deliver on the younger audiences’ evolving wants and needs in a pandemic world.
“On behalf of the 125 organising committees, we are beyond grateful to be allowed to be part of the university project maximising the programme’s growth. Especially in the new normal where online learning is essential in everyday life, utilising the best of online platforms such as social media is indispensable. It has forced us to look beyond and adjust our approach to
align with our goal. As future industry players, we take mobility and convenience in planning out the programme, be it on Facebook and Instagram mobile app or web, or even TikTok to maximise the offerings and thus reach the goal of raising the level of understanding and the significance of the programme to the potential stakeholders through our performance,” said Liew Yong Qi, Director, BETS.
She added, “The organising team is practising coverage maximisation through different publicity tools and media channels to shape an enhanced learning experience via on-field exercises, especially bringing out the idea of learning while having fun matters. As our way of gaining exposure to match with the industry’s needs and wants, we believe that the designated talk show programme does leverage the new framework to enhance the concept of educational sustainability in the legacy of the pandemic era.”
Alongside platform enhancements, BETS will be unveiling its creative initiatives associating the programme branding’s structure, featuring multiple components across various channels, creating a cohesive message that intends to strengthen the reputation it which then made recognisable to the public and trigger the potential stakeholders’ interests in the particular educational programme.
Lecturer-cum-programme advisor Mohd Yusof Bin Zulkefli stated that BETS introduces three main programme components to address the needs of combining education and entertainment. “In designing the fundamentals of edutainment programme as a way of teaching and incorporating game-like features, this segment features DPR’s academic staff wide-spreading talk show topics such as Fashion of PR, Service Learning (CSR), Social Media, Media Law and Ethics and others which intend to offer new and fascinating alternative sub-topics that are associated with the PR field.”
“Additionally, Alumni Sharing Session covers another programming genre structured around the PR alumni of the university on sharing personal life and career starts up as an industry player. BETS strives to build a thriving two-way relationship with the alumni to help power innovation and personal growth as an approach to the project on potential stakeholders.” He added.
The programme branding also includes Public Engagement as another main segment on putting creative narratives to engage the public in delivering game-like features as a form of inspiration and support in a positive way to highlight the importance of uplifting PR enthusiasm among the potential stakeholders.
The Positioning of Public Relations (PR) Programme kicks off its first Public Engagement event on 7th February 2022.
