The Jho Low vs Zakir Naik paradox afflicting Malaysia

This article is 5 years old

LETTER | As a senior citizen, I echo the kopi tiam talk being shared by many citizens.

It is over the latest breaking news of wanted Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho who is discovered now being given cover in Cyprus.

The Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador is also reported as saying: 'It is irresponsible for a certain country to continue to protecting (the) fugitive'.

"We have requested the country concerned to extradite the businessperson, but it seems that he is enjoying immunity from any action from the authorities in that country".

So on that same note, citizens are asking what about Zakir Nair? A fugitive as far as his motherland, India, goes but enjoying a celebrated freedom here in Malaysia.

So in all likelihood, would India not be saying exactly what our Malaysia claims in justifying why Zakir Naik is being taken care of here?

In fact, social media is abuzz with an avalanche of comments along with a similar train of thoughts.

Wonder what our political leaders have got to say?

Indeed if kleptocracy has not shamed us enough, here we go yet with another paradox that tears away our dignity and honour.
