Teresa Kok responsible for GST exemption for condo residents

This article is 5 years old

LETTER | I refer to the press report that Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was hassled when she visited the partially collapsed building site in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur recently. I feel she does not deserve that.

There was a suggestion that Kok had neglected her duty as Seputeh MP and that she did not offer assistance to the Taman Desa residents for what they had requested.

I think it is only fair for me to state that sometime in October 2014, Kok had attended our press conference at our condominium after she was invited. We had then disputed the implementation of the GST for maintenance fees paid by condo residents.

This was widely reported in the English and Chinese media. I believed subsequently, she had followed-up with the ministry concerned and the relevant government departments as well.

As we all now know, all condominium residents are exempted from paying the six percent GST rate which came into effect on Apri 1,l 2015.

I have no doubt that this was due to the sustained efforts by Kok and that condo residents now need not pay the GST. I feel that one must give credit when credit is due.
