The rakyat will not waver, we will prevail

This article is 4 years old

LETTER | On May 9, 2018, we voted because we knew that we should save Malaysia. We voted because we believed we could eradicate corrupted coalition.

However, after the recent debacle, I have friends and family members telling me to leave the country, to get a job overseas and live there for good. The thought of leaving Malaysia, however, has not occurred to me. Nor, I would add, will it ever.

I am fortunate to be born and brought up here. It gives me a strong sense of belonging, a certain comfort I only feel when I am at home. We, young people, are the future of our community and the future of our country. It is, therefore, important that we stand firm and resolve in defence of the country we love.

If I could say one thing to the young people of today, it would be to never lose hope and never quit. This is just the beginning, we will and must continue to fight for our country.

The feeling of utter dejection may consume us today, but our desire to save Malaysia should never die. It does not matter how slowly we go as long as we do not stop fighting.

The unity in all of us was ignited during GE14, should we remain in this attitude of unity, not just at significant times, but at all times? Shall we lift our heads again to continue the fight and weather this storm together?
