Economic Action Council welcomes feedback from social media
LETTER | The Secretariat of the Economic Action Council (EAC) is appreciative of close to 1,500 responses received to date from individuals, business associations and the private sector through the dedicated platform that was set up on March 22, 2020.
The establishment of this platform does not mean the government lacks ideas on how to address the current economic situation. Instead, we saw a number of feedback being articulated on social media – which include some good ideas that could be given consideration.
We do not want these ideas to go unnoticed and thus, we decided to establish this platform to ensure those who are interested could channel their feedback directly to the Economic Action Council (EAC).
Engaging with the public and stakeholders is not a new practice to the government. For instance, the Economic Planning Unit (previously Ministry of Economic Affairs) in the preparation of the 12th Malaysia Plan had conducted many engagement sessions to get the views of stakeholders as well as invite the public to contribute their feedback through the dedicated platform.
Hence, this online platform set up by the EAC is part of our engagement especially in the current situation where the Movement Control Order is in place.
Since the formation of EAC, relevant officers from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Finance Ministry (MOF), Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti), Bank Negara and various other ministries/government agencies have been working on daily basis to monitor economic developments and trends.
In addition, working groups were established with participation of industry representatives to further gauge the status on the ground. Issues are deliberated to formulate policy measures before presented to the EAC chaired by the prime minister which meets every Monday.
Thank you once again to those who have contributed ideas and we welcome further feedback from time to time.
Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali
Executive Director of EAC
