LETTER | Why the need for individual approval from Miti?

This article is 4 years old

LETTER | There are many things I don’t seem to understand.

If the government relaxed the movement control order (MCO) and allowed certain industries/business sectors to operate, why do we need them to apply to the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) for approval?

What additional “value-add” can we gather from this process?

If an application is approved, what additional protection and benefits can we give to society? If an application is not approved, what potential disaster can we avert?

To me, the most important considerations are: (i) whether or not the government has clearly identified the industries/business sectors that are allowed to operate during the MCO and (ii) whether or not clear rules and regulations have been formulated and applied for those allowed to operate.

Once they are made known, the government should allow the industries/business sectors to operate without having to seek further approval.

The onus should be on the business people.

They ought to know the industries/business sectors they are in. They ought to know all the additional conditions they must comply during the MCO.

To me, compliance should come from enforcement based on the MCO rules and regulations governing certain industries/sectors that have been approved to resume operation.

It is pointless to add another layer of “approval process”.

It serves no purpose other than taking away resources and jamming up the Miti website.

I am just a layperson trying to help. If Miti can show me specifically there are "value-add" to this additional approval process, then I stand corrected.
