LETTER | Country in crisis but political brokering takes centerstage
LETTER | What do we make out of our politicians, their political priorities and unending brokering in a time when floods are wrecking havoc across the country while hospital beds are being filled to capacity in a Covid-19 breakout?
Look at the news hogging online portals, print newspapers and the amount of chocking propaganda spun by cyber troopers.
Should the politicians, including the unelected government leaders, not be coming together to alleviate the crises hitting our citizenry?
Should they not be on the ground, seeing to how they and their sworn followers can reach out to the tens of thousands of citizens affected by the floods, economic downturns and those in peril owing to Covid-19?
Should not our leaders from all sides of the divide be shelving their political agendas and instead come together to inspire, motivate and lend a compassionate hand on the ground level where people are suffering?
But no.
The daily news captures unending storms of fights, allegations, accusations, corrupt agendas, shocking exposes and even an audacity to be preoccupied with winning a general election rumoured to be held soon and are also being brokered as a 'must-do' agenda for these career politicians.
What nationhood are we hoping for?
It is really very disgusting and heart-wrenching that our leaders, politicians and their followers or opportunity seeking individuals are too busy with politics while the country is reeling in a natural disaster, a health paralysis, economic stagnation and a financial collapse.
