LETTER | RM6 million school left idle since BN time

This article is 4 years old

LETTER | The Brownstein Estate Tamil School’s new premises, built with a budget of RM6 million by the Barisan Nasional government and almost completed, has yet to get its certificate of fitness approval for the past two years. The school’s students are now studying in a very old, debilitated building and cannot move to the new facility.

From BN, Pakatan Harapan took over, and now it is the Perikatan Nasional government, and we do not know what is next. The government keeps on changing, but at the end of the day we are the losers as it affects taxpayers’ money.

Leave alone the element of politics. Any government officer could have taken the initiative to solve the problem even if there were flaws in the project process management. There are so many agencies that can come into play when such mistakes take place. There are so many laws available to put things right. There are so many standard operating procedures that can be followed to make sure everything is fine. Yet, why are we still facing these problems?

How can anybody with a bit of conscience stomach this type of nonsense. It does not matter whether it is a Chinese, Malay or a Tamil school. It is a question of principle. Are we living amidst uncouth officers who have lost all sense of values, principles, morality and conscience? What is wrong with our country? Why is this happening in this country?

I had a chance to pass by the school and was appalled to hear the grouses of the people in that area.

I did some homework and I was shocked to see 16 such newly built schools have been similarly abandoned in the past two years. I can just be another passer-by, but I cannot be indifferent. I am just a simpleton who believes that we live in a beautiful country and there is something we all can do within our means without any personal agenda.

Can the administrators of this country stop pointing fingers at others, stop passing the buck and do something to solve the problem so that we can move forward. Whatever flaws, please rectify it and get it done in the spirit of nation building. Our children need these better facilities.
