LETTER | The making of a wonderful Malaysia

This article is 3 years old

LETTER | As we take stock of the mess around us unearthed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the lyrics of Louis Armstrong’s “What a wonderful world” must strike a cord in our souls.

For Malaysians, these past fifteen months have been tumultuous and treacherous, for want of a better word.

Today, as we gasp in horror over the announcement of a continuation of the “total lockdown”, we are also lost not knowing when that “as soon as possible” reconvening of Parliament can happen.

Never in our history have we witnessed Malaysians from all segments of society agreeing vehemently on one score.

That is, the present backdoor government and its over seventy cabinet members are clueless and completely disconnected with the man in the street.

While we may be painfully left without recourse and forced to bite the bullet and remain quietly counting time until the next general election (GE15), perhaps we could immediately start mapping the rakyat’s creation of “A wonderful Malaysia”.

A wonderful Malaysia where all thieving, plotting and frogging politicians will be eliminated before the polls roll.

They will not even be allowed to go on ceramah beats.

A wonderful Malaysia where politicians will have their powers of abuse nailed and forced to live on their scaled down salaries.

A wonderful Malaysia where we dump racism and religious bigotry. In place we let the rainbows of meritocracy paint our new, wonderful world.

A wonderful Malaysia where we coexist, sharing the burdens of building a whole new nation of people upholding integrity, honour and dignity.

A wonderful Malaysia where business captains who thrive with political brokering are driven out and in place we support and grow genuine, caring businesses that will build a wonderful Malaysia.

A wonderful Malaysia where we place the National Happiness Index as our numero uno priority.

A wonderful Malaysia that allows us to enjoy the bellwether country and live a healthy, vibrant lifestyle. And for that we will have to say a big “No” to the plundering of our natural environment out of greed, self enrichment agendas and exploits.

A wonderful Malaysia where our children will grow up to love every Malaysian without the tainted lens of racism and the punishing guilt of religious divisiveness.

A wonderful Malaysia that our neighbours will regard respectfully and be motivated to emulate in as many ways as they can.

A wonderful Malaysia is possible because in this Covid-19 climate we are beginning to see Malaysians coming together on an overdrive mode on social media with shared pains, agonies, frustrations and above all a determination to save our beloved land from all the misdeeds, poor management, thievery, betrayals and above all the many treasonous deeds and inactions by politicians, boot lickers (hand kissers) and paid goons as well as greedy business captains.

A wonderful Malaysia is possible. A place where we can see the rainbows of unity light up our nation. A future so near where we are as happy as the people in the Kingdom of Bhutan or like the living healthy, happy centenarians in Cuba.

If it is possible in other lands it is possible to have a wonderful Malaysia too.

God bless Malaysians for as long as we remain steadfast to rebuilding a wonderful Malaysia.
