LETTER | Will the MPs save the nation or save themselves?

This article is 3 years old

LETTER | “Who will be saved, the nation or power-hungry failed politicians?” That is the burning question of the day.

If anyone from the collapsed Perikan Nasional government or disgraced politicians from PN associates were to be elected as the ninth prime minister of Malaysia, it only means one thing: The nation can go to hell but the skin of some of these politicians is more important and must be saved at all costs!

If anyone from the collapsed PN government were to be elected, the message is simple: The democratic system can be and has been abused for self-preservation.

Everyone from the previous government is collectively responsible for the mess we are in today. The principle of collegiality in a cabinet so dictates.

Each and every one must be held accountable for failing to deliver this nation from the scorch of the devastating pandemic. They are responsible for the deaths of many, for the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs, for the ruin of the economy that has paralyzed the nation, for wilfully shutting out sane and rational voices in Parliament that could have pointed the way forward.

About 40,000 respondents took part in an online survey conducted on Twitter. The overwhelming choice of these respondents was Anwar Ibrahim with a staggering vote of 69.6% or 27,840 votes. His closest rival Hishammuddin Hussein obtained a miserable 15.2% or 6,080 of the votes – certainly less than a quarter compared to the result for Anwar.

It is very clear that the vast majority want Anwar as the next prime minister. This stark message cannot be ignored or dismissed as trivial. The sentiments of the people must be respected.

If the popular will of the people is not taken into account despite this evidence and anyone from the rejected PN government were to be elected, this is a clear sign that 111 or 112 MPs have over-ruled the majority voice of the people constituting thousands of Malaysians.

If this were to happen, let’s pledge that every one of these vile and vicious MPs will be punished come GE15. They must all be defeated and consigned to the dustbin of history, never to make a comeback. Let this serve as a signal lesson to any future traitor who fails to respect the voice of the Malaysian people.

Money and corruption are ruining the land, crooked politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treating us as sheep, and we’re tired of hearing promises that we know they’ll never keep, says Ray Davies.

That quotation from this English singer-musician exemplifies the politicians that we Malaysians need to identify and get rid of to save the nation:
