LETTER | Count on our uniformed heroes in our time of need

This article is 2 years old

LETTER | Please stand in solidarity with the victims of the recent landslide tragedy in Taman Bukit Permai, Ampang. We can all offer our sympathies and condolences as a form of moral support to the victims.

Please keep them in our thoughts and respective prayers as they weather this tragedy. I believe it is the very least we could do as a Malaysian Family.

I also write this to commend the various agencies and their members involved in the Search and Rescue operation at the recent Taman Bukit Permai landslide tragedy area.

News agencies carried extensive coverage showing personnel of the Civil Defence Force’s Special Disaster and Emergency Response Team, the Fire and Rescue Department and Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team working hand in hand to rescue victims.

One could see it in their eyes that they are committed to the task at hand and they had only one objective in mind which is to rescue all the victims.

Therefore, I humbly ask everyone to appreciate our uniformed personnel. These officers do not ask for much. Do not criticize them unnecessarily for things that are beyond their control.

These officers face danger, hazards and risks every time they go out on operations. The Ampang tragedy is a fine example of how they risk their own lives and race against time to rescue victims. We are fortunate enough to be able to rely on them in times of disaster.

Please do not take our uniformed heroes for granted. They too have families who want them to return home safely. They might not be there tomorrow.

So please extend a little more appreciation to them. Even a humble gesture of just saying thank you would go a long way to make someone’s day.

Make no mistake, I am not only carrying a flag just for the Civil Defence Force but all of Malaysia’s uniformed personnel and frontliners who have tirelessly given it their all, in the name of King and country. They are truly a representation of Malaysia’s best and finest.
