LETTER | Article on Tamarind Square's car park security misleading

This article is 2 years old

LETTER | The management office of Tamarind Square would like to highlight several inaccuracies and misleading assertions in an article published by Malaysiakini concerning the state of security of the mall’s car park.

We are very surprised to find that the article had denied the fact that CCTV recordings at Tamarind Square were the main lead that led to the capture of the culprit. We have shown the relevant CCTV footage from our security surveillance system that showed otherwise for Malaysiakini’s reference. As informed to the portal, we are not able to share the CCTV footage as the cases were still under investigation.

Malaysiakini should not have published the writer’s personal view based on a day’s visit about the CCTV installation at Tamarind Square without understanding the site’s overall layout. In addition, the writer was not a competent person to do so. The site of 15 acres is huge and it is impossible to install CCTV at every corner. The CCTVs were installed at strategic locations (i.e., points of entry and exit) and also with input from the Cyberjaya police.

For clarity, we have no comment about statements in the WhatsApp group from Sepang district police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof that you mentioned in your article.

We have also clarified the assertion in the article that there was no security guard patrolling the car park area during the writer’s visit, where we have a dedicated security guard patrolling with an electric scooter around the clock and patrols by plainclothes security guards.

The Car Park Management Office is also meant for future car park operators who will manage the car park’s operation and administration. It is not, as reported by Malaysiakini, as if no one is looking after the car park area.

We have planned for the Car Park Management Office to be next to the Tamarind Square Manage Office for the convenience of occupants and visitors to settle their matters in a single place. We continue in our efforts to improve the security measures at the car park and the installation of a panic button is in progress.

The police representative of the Cyberjaya police station also endorsed that our CCTV footage is the main lead in capturing the culprit and they also appreciated our full cooperation until the culprit was arrested.

We are of the view that it is unfair for Tamarind Square Management to receive such discouraging articles while we are committed to continually improving security measures in Tamarind Square.

We have requested for Malaysiakini to rectify the said article as appropriate.
