LETTER | Selling fake IC is treason
LETTER | The news of a politician being arrested for alleged reports of having sold fake national registration identity cards (NRICs) is too much to stomach.
Whether this turns out to be fact eventually or tails off as a malafide attempt to turn the political scales on some people in the state of Sabah, only time and spotless investigation will tell.
In the meantime, we trust the relevant custodians of national integrity and the law will do a job that leaves not even an iota of doubt.
Since this case of intense public and national interest, it is important that we take note of the following parameters, which should send a clarion alarm to all politicians and those who are ultimately responsible for the future of this nation that is already drowning in so many issues and concerns from lacking in good governance to not being able to appoint able leadership to till battling a cancerous corruption in the country despite six over decades of self-rule.
Firstly, selling or issuing NRICs to foreign citizens is a dastardly attack on the nation.
Secondly, when you do it supposedly to emerge victorious at the polls, it is akin to an invasion and undermines the nation.
Thirdly, such a deceitful action, therefore, is treason and nothing else.
If proven true and beyond any doubt, the punishment must come hard and fast.
We hope it will not be dragged on and on like some of our infamous court trials that are punctured with medical leave, appeals, special leave, and all sorts of antics.
In fact, it is unthinkable that we even have a case where it is alleged that fake NRICs were issued.
Why is our beloved nation facing so many hurdles, challenges, traps, twists and turns that are constantly ruining the country's good name, destroying our ethos and becoming so deeply entrenched in bad behaviour?
How long can we survive all these brutal attacks on our nationhood?
Unless and until we keep asking these serious questions, all else will be buried under carpets, and we will end up with our infamous "tutup satu mata" (close one eye) attitude.
If we truly love our country, we must raise hell over all these shocking and heart-breaking news.
