LETTER | GE15 campaign trail - pulling of rabbits out of the hat
LETTER | As the campaigning gets rolling, we are witnessing how our politicians are turning into magicians.
Akin to pulling rabbits out of the hat, promises of money for the rakyat seem to be the competition between parties with each one trying to outdo the opponent.
One party promised an RM500 cash gift for every newlywed and RM200 for every woman giving birth to her first child.
Another screamed that every Malaysian household's income will be no less than RM2,208 and where the family's wages fall below the stipulated figure the difference in amount will automatically be credited into the family's bank account.
In the days ahead in all probability, there may be more rabbits coming out of the hat as charity seems to be the password this GE15.
Why are these politicians reducing voters to look like beggars?
What is the role and responsibility of a political party that wants to form the government? Is it giving handouts and being charitable or should it not be leadership, integrity, or capability in governing the nation?
And will the beggarman fall for the rich man's tricks?
What we should all be asking is where is all the money suddenly coming from.
Why now when all these past decades of the nation's wealth did not reach the rakyat?
Do Malaysians need charity or good governance and a concrete plan to plug corruption in any form to reset the nation?
It is time to demonstrate political maturity and vibrant discernment at the ballot box.
Only then can we talk, hope and work towards rebuilding a strong, resilient and progressive nation that alone can bring prosperity and relief to all Malaysians.
But will Malaysians instead fall for the rabbits being pulled out of the hat?
