LETTER | LRT blunder...heads must roll

This article is 2 years old

LETTER | The Kelana Jaya LRT line is paralysed for a week, affecting 16 stations on its route.

Well, there is no doubt that technical issues can happen at any time, to any machinery.

However, this particular incident could have possibly been avoided if the management and government of the day had been more proactive in taking appropriate action much earlier.

The cumulative signs and symptoms were glaringly staring at them for the past few months.

The frequent disruptions and breakdowns should have triggered an immediate emergency plan, in the event a major issue cropped up.

Where was the expertise then and why no proactive action was taken before?

Merely apologising and offering some monetary compensation to the daily workforce commuters are not sufficient.

That doesn't at all address the core problems which are not only confined to technical matters but also the level of competence of the company’s management.

Imagine the hardship the daily commuters have to go through, far more for those who do not have the luxury of having their own transport.

The government has been campaigning hard for us to use the available public transport but with such frequent disruptions, how can we have the confidence?

Imagine the loss of man-hours impacting productivity for the one-week period.

Heads must roll for such blunders and the relevant ministry and minister must be taken to task, and not merely extend an apology.

Ministers and company big-shots are chauffeur-driven in their comfortable wheels while the rakyat suffers in the rain and scorching sun...and even floods.

Time to take responsibility and resign immediately.
