LETTER | Malaysians must unite and forge ahead

This article is 2 years old

LETTER | Now that the political dust is settling, let us lend our full support to this maiden unity government under the much-aspired leadership of our new prime minister.

Malaysia has indeed experienced more than three years of political instability, with many questionable decisions and policies made.

The helpless rakyat could only stare into the dark uncertainties of the next day and month and hope for the best, but time and again, it was one disappointment after another.

Now that we have a well-publicised personality who spearheaded the "reform" platform more than two decades ago as premier, all of us are brimming with hopes of better days to come. These reform initiatives require our full support in every way.

Hence, let us put aside our individual ideologies and prejudices and lend support to the new leadership.

A leadership supported by a capable team of fully dedicated ministers is what Malaysia needs to forge ahead. The next few years are tough ones as we need to realign our fiscal and economic policies and ensure the non-marginalisation of any race or group.

This government is our first experiment with a unity government. Being such should not be an obstacle to good governance as individually, each political party had pledged to doing a good job if given the opportunity.

As long as new initiatives and policies steer clear of racial and religious narratives, the derived benefits should transcend well all the way.

With the much-expected recession looming, the new government must hit the ground running. The new team needs to put in overtime work to reduce its nasty impact.

Show your worth and we will be fully behind you.
