LETTER | What PM10 already scores for Malaysia

This article is 2 years old

LETTER | One cannot downplay or camouflage the sense of jubilation permeating all across the country.

News of the royal decree followed by the swearing-in ceremony at Istana Negara that made Anwar Ibrahim the 10th prime minister is, by any measure, historic.

In fact, it is not an understatement or a bloated narrative to state that Anwar has already scored par excellence for the nation even before he enters his office in Putrajaya.

First, by earning the trust and consent of the king and fellow rulers, and subsequently his investiture as the nation's 10th prime minister, Anwar has helped the entire nation to uphold and cherish the country's Constitutional Monarchy.

Second, he has through his innate leadership abilities ensured the cohesiveness of the coalition under Pakatan Harapan as they marched through the polls. It has set a sterling benchmark for others on how political alliances should function.

Third, Anwar has ignited a mounting wave of hope for the nation as can be witnessed by the jubilation expressed in surging social media messages exchanged among citizens.

Fourth, he has immediately earned the respect for our nation and its people from leaders around the world as seen from the accolades pouring in.

Fifth, not only compliments but even securing promises of collaboration and trade are being registered for the onward success of Malaysians.

Sixth, the immediate bouncing back of our Bursa and the strengthening of the ringgit are well ascribed to the arrival of Anwar as our 10th prime minister.

Seventh, for the first time in our history since independence under Tunku Abdul Rahman, we are witnessing how political blocs are stepping forward to work in unison under Anwar as their leader for the good of the nation and its people.

Eight, he has scored an unprecedented benchmark for a functioning democracy by announcing immediately, hours after his investiture as PM, that facing a confidence vote would be the first order of business when Parliament convenes on Dec 19.

Ninth, he has given Malaysians a solid lesson on the merits of persevering, unrelenting and consistency in thoughts, words and deeds in order to succeed with the nation at heart.

This lesson should go down well within the business community, the civil service and all young aspiring citizens as we take the highway to re-building our own nation.

Last - but certainly not least - our prime minister has demonstrated to us the power of goodwill and magnanimity in order to build, sustain and thrive in a progressive, harmonious and united Malaysia.

His philosophy of inclusiveness that cements his leadership has no parallel this far.

For all of these ten reasons, Malaysians will certainly stand by him and ensure that on the first day of Parliament in session a thumping 'ayes' rings and reverberates throughout the nation as we acknowledge our 10th prime minister of hope, Anwar Ibrahim.
