LETTER | KLIA2 waiting area in poor condition

This article is 2 years old

LETTER | I had the pleasure to travel this December and returned via KLIA2 two nights ago.

The journey was smooth but was disappointing as the private car hire pick-up location at Level 1 - KLIA2 was in a pathetic condition.

Among the poor conditions observed were:

1. The interlocking paver blocks used on the road/ground have settled and appear uneven. This is a challenge for Grab drivers and alighting passengers.

2. The use of improper “railings” in the form of ropes is both dangerous and unsafe. I observed a traveller trip over a section of rope. Proper steel railings should be installed to demarcate the appropriate waiting areas.

3. Poor lighting used in the area is another concern. People waiting there struggle to move in the area and observe arriving cars.

4. The driveway for the vehicles appears to have also settled, with major potholes noted. This is another safety concern and may cause vehicle damage too.

5. There was a crowd build-up that night when I arrived but did not see any security personnel to guide and control the passengers waiting to board vehicles.

Do we need to wait for a disaster to happen first before action is taken to resolve this condition? To be a regional travel hub, passenger comfort must be addressed in all aspects.

I am of the opinion that the above is not a welcome feature at KLIA2. Do we have to wait for the new transport minister to visit the complex before action is taken by the airport operator?

I urge quick action to be taken immediately for the sake of the safety and comfort of airport users.
