LETTER | Don't seek vengeance, let's all forgive and move on

This article is a year old

LETTER | Sam Ke Ting has hopefully been acquitted for the final time. The statement read out by her after the court judgment is heartfelt sadness for the victims, their parents, and herself.

Her punishment has been six long years of hounding and persecution by politicians bent on gaining political mileage and causing racial divide for their selfish ends. She will likely be haunted by the cries and visions of the victims. Sleep could be a nightmare.

The parents have gone through a lot of pain after the loss of their loved ones. The moments of counting the age of their children as the years go by will be tormenting and heartrending.

Forgive and move on; one of the parents has done so. Sam wants to move on. Forget, no. No one can ever forget this tragedy, not only of the horrific incident but the vile and sad hounding and persecution by politicians despite two courts having acquitted Sam.

The Court of Appeal has now affirmed her acquittal, yet some people are still baying for blood. There seems to be no let-up in the self-righteous punishment they seek to impose, first the politicians, now some of the public seeking vindictive vengeance.

These people have acted like they are the victims directly involved in this tragedy. Actually, they are right - we are all victims, victims of racial divisiveness and never-ending mindless vengeance.

The tragedy has passed. The memory, the torment, and the haunting will live on. But we must all move on.

If we do not forgive and move on, we will be guilty of the crime of furthering the racial divide and seeking an eye for an eye - which will lead all to blindness.
