LETTER | A lesson for motorists

This article is 10 months old

LETTER | The recent exercise by the Road Transport Department (RTD) and police to nab motorists for various traffic offences is long overdue.

It is a known fact that only when enforcement is carried out will the motorists take a cautious stand. It is always a case of having to learn things the hard way.

Many photographs of the various traffic offences have been circulating online to make the public aware of the dire consequences to face for not toeing the line.

However, one photograph is conspicuously missing from the many sent via WhatsApp - the penalty for an offence at the zebra crossing.

There are quite a few of these black and white zebra crossings along Dang Wangi Road. I am very sure that there are many more in Kuala Lumpur.

It would be good to highlight it too, so that the public is aware of the seriousness of the offence.

It is high time for motorists to respect and obey the traffic rules to reduce the number of road accidents.

This exercise should not be a one-off operation but must be carried out on a regular basis. Motorists need to know that their scot-free days are over!
