LETTER | Restore 2pct pension increment for now

This article is 5 months old

LETTER | I have been urged by pensioners to express their shock that they are now in an even worse situation after the Federal Court ruled that the two percent increment puts pensioners at a disadvantage.

However, when it comes to change, it must involve improvements but where is it?

Instead of an improvement, pensioners are now in a much worse predicament after being deprived of their two percent increment!

Where is the logic in this? Are pensioners being punished because the court ruled that they deserve better?

A two percent increase might seem insignificant for the T20 but it means a lot to the M40 and B40 groups.

These are senior citizens struggling to make ends meet after the sudden rise in the cost of living, following the Covid-19 pandemic. They just want to survive on their own without having to depend on their children.

‘PM must intervene’

It was always a joy for the old folks to see the two percent increase in their pensions each year. What a devastating shock this year!

As the pleas by Cuepacs to maintain the two percent seem to have fallen on deaf ears, pensioners now ask for the immediate intervention of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, to look into their predicament and find a favourable solution without delay.

Do not let our senior citizens be punished by the irrational decisions made by a few officers in decision-making positions.
