LETTER | Monitor and maintain services regularly

This article is 5 months old

LETTER | The Smart Selangor free bus service launched by the state government is a noble one.

However, when I go for my daily walks in the mornings, I get to see the Smart Selangor bus passing by with hardly any passengers in it.

When I get into town too it is the same, with a handful of people the most in it. The response from the community is very discouraging.

The state government should sit down and crack their heads to decide whether this service provided to the public is viable or not.

Rather than seeing the buses plying the designated routes pointlessly and wasting unnecessary fuel and maintenance costs, it would probably be a better proposition to discontinue this programme.

The taxpayers’ money could be channelled elsewhere for better use.

Poor maintenance culture

On a different note, the park that I frequent daily for my morning walks seems to be lacking in monitoring and maintenance of late.

The empty plastic bottles and rubbish found floating in the pond, where tortoises and fish are reared, have not been attended to on a regular basis.

Similarly, a pipe leakage has been noticed near the restaurant in the park. Water has been flowing from the slope to the jogging track enveloping the pond.

The leakage has been going on unattended for more than a month, to the extent that there is a puddle of water on the jogging track. Sad to say, it seems to be going unnoticed by the authorities concerned.

It is about time the authorities concerned woke up from their slumber and please get the job done as soon as possible to stamp out the unnecessary wastage of precious water.

There is no point in being bestowed city status if we don't live up to it in all ways, especially when dealing with simple matters of daily life.
