4.30am: Harapan has officially won Gopeng, concluding the final seat that has yet to be declared officially or unofficially.

Only the official result for Kota Marudu has not been declared, although Malaysiakini has called the seat for KDM.

Official and final, Zahid wins Bagan Datuk

4am: The Election Commission confirms that BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is the winner of Bagan Datuk, with a razor-thin majority of 348 votes.

PKR sources confirm there is no recount, as earlier reported.

He defeats Harapan's Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, PN's Mohd Faiz Na'aman and independent candidate Tawfik Ismail.

Tawfik loses his deposit after picking up 226 votes.

PN leadership to decide on Perlis MB

3.40am: Kangar, Perlis – Perlis Perikatan Nasional chairperson Mohd Shukri Ramli says the coalition’s central leadership will choose the candidate for the state’s menteri besar.

Additionally, the state PN leadership has not nominated anyone for the top position.

“The menteri besar candidate will be decided by the central leadership. God willing the appointment letter is on its way to Perlis,” he tells a press conference at the Perlis PAS Complex.

PN has won 14 out of 15 state seats in the Perlis state assembly, and made a clean sweep on all three parliamentary seats in the state.

The success exceeds PN’s expectations, says Shukri.

Anwar claims to have the numbers, tight-lipped on partners

3.35am: Anwar Ibrahim claims Harapan has formed a majority bloc to form the next government.

"We have crossed the 111, 112 number," he tells reporters this morning.

However, he declines to reveal his partners, saying this would only be revealed after he submits the numbers to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Batu: Prabakaran wins, Tian Chua loses deposit

3.30am: Harapan's Batu candidate P Prabakaran retains his seat with a majority of 22,241 votes, according to official results.

Batu was a closely watched seat because it had the most candidates, including its former MP Tian Chua.

Of the 10 candidates, eight lost their deposits.

This includes BN's A Kohilan Pillay and outspoken lawyer Siti Kasim.

Kohilan picked up 10,398 votes, Chua received 4,603 votes while Siti received just 653 votes, the EC says.

Hisham, Muhyiddin say no to working with Harapan

3.20am: Umno leader Hishammuddin Hussein says BN is willing to support the formation of a stable government as long as it does not include Pakatan Harapan.

"I have been consistent in my stand not to cooperate with Harapan," he says on Facebook.

Similarly, PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin says the coalition will not work with Harapan to form a government.

Instead, the Bersatu president says PN will try to form a government with Sabah and Sarawak parties.

"To form a PN-led government, I will discuss with parties in Sabah and Sarawak soon. In guaranteeing stability, PN also welcomes any party which are ready to accept PN’s principles to form a clean, stable and caring government.

"No PH (Harapan)," he tells reporters.

Hung assembly in Perak, BN plays kingmaker

3.15am: Pengkalan, Perak - Election results in Perak have resulted in a hung state assembly, with BN in a position to be the kingmaker.

Neither Perikatan Nasional (PN) nor Pakatan Harapan has enough votes to form a state government, according to official results.

PN has 26 seats and Harapan has 22. BN has 11 seats, which comprises 10 seats won by Umno and one secured by MCA.

Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria says the Islamist party will be discussing the formation of a stable state government with “friends” from BN.

“However, we are clear that we will not be with Harapan. We are clear with our policy of ‘No Anwar, No DAP’. So no discussion with Harapan,” he says.

Thirty state seats are required to form a simple majority state government in Perak.

Hung assembly in Pahang

3.13am: None of the coalitions which contested in the Pahang state election can win a simple majority, resulting in a hung state assembly.

Only 41 of the 42 seats were contested. The election for the Tioman state seat will be held on Dec 7 due to the death of a candidate.

Out of the 41 seats, the results of 36 seats have been announced.

According to the Election Commission's official result, BN, Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have won 15, 14 and seven seats respectively.

Even if BN is able to win the remaining five seats, it will still not have enough numbers to secure a simple majority.

Saravanan is MIC’s sole survivor

3.12am: MIC has only won one Parliament seat. The party’s deputy president M Saravanan manages to retain the Tapah seat in Perak for the fourth term.

However, the election for one of the seats it is contesting - Padang Serai - has been postponed following the death of its Harapan incumbent M Karupaiyah, three days before polling.

In Sungai Siput, MIC president SA Vigneswaran failed to unseat the Harapan incumbent S Kesavan, who won the seat with a majority of 4,000 votes.

Three MIC vice presidents were also defeated - T Mohan (Hulu Selangor), A Kohilan Pillay (Batu) and T Murugiah (Teluk Intan). The party’s women’s wing chief Mohana Muniandy also lost in Kuala Langat.

Shahidan tells Zahid to step down as Umno president

3.10am: Shahidan Kassim, who won the Arau seat with a huge majority, is asking Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down as Umno president.

He recalls how former premier Najib Abdul Razak was asked to quit after BN was defeated in the 2018 polls.

“Tomorrow, Umno’s supreme council and political bureau will meet. I think they will ask Zahid to relinquish his post. Before this, he asked Najib to step down, so I am asking Zahid to step down,” he adds.

Shahidan contested the Arau seat under the PN ticket after Umno dropped him as a candidate.

Waiting with bated breath

3.05am: The air is tense at the Grand Dorsett Hotel as media members await an official statement from Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim.

PKR's Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman tells reporters there is so far no indication as to when an official statement will be released.

"I promise all of you, once I receive word I will set up a space for a press conference. Either inside the room or at the hall," he says to reporters who have been gathering since around 6pm.

Top leaders and Harapan election winners are gathering as negotiations commence following no one coalition gaining enough seats to form government.

Request for Bagan Datuk recount

3.05am: Harapan's Bagan Datuk candidate Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin is asking for a recount.

This is after he lost the seat to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi by 348 votes.

Under current election rules, recounts at the final stage can only be done to recheck the totalling of the ballot boxes, and not to count each individual vote.

PN loses only one Parliament seat in northern states

2.53am: PN wins all the constituencies it contested in Perlis and Kedah, except for one seat - Sungai Petani.

Coupled with its clean sweep in Terengganu and Kelantan, the victories show PN had carved Peninsular Malaysia into two large sections.

The north and east coast are PN territories, while Harapan controls most of the central and southern regions, with some pockets of support for BN.

Umno president scrapes through with 348 majority

2.45am: Ahmad Zahid Hamidi can now breathe easy after several heart-stopping moments which saw his lead slashed to 76 votes.

However, the Umno president, who demanded for the election to be held, manages to survive, defeating Harapan’s Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin by a mere 348 votes.

Azmin, Zuraida out - Saifuddin sole surviving ‘traitor’ in peninsula

2.42am: Saifuddin Abdullah retains his seat of Indera Mahkota, making him the only MP who defected from PKR to Bersatu in Peninsula Malaysia to retain his seat.

Besides Saifuddin, of the 11 MPs who Harapan supporters call "traitors", only those from East Malaysia won.

They are Ali Biju in Saratok, Jonathan Yassin in Ranau and Willie Mongin in Puncak Borneo.

Zuraida Kamaruddin, who jumped from PKR to Bersatu, and then from Bersatu to PBM, suffered the worst defeat. She lost her deposit in Ampang, where she served for three terms.

The other losers are:

- Azmin Ali (Gombak)

- Baru Bian (Selangau)

- Kamaruddin Jaffar (Bandar Tun Razak)

- Mansor Othman (Nibong Tebal)

- Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat)

The other MP who defected, Edmund Santhara Kumar (Segamat), did not contest in this election.

Harapan wins Bentong by a hair, Wong Tack loses deposit

2.40am: Harapan candidate Young Syefura Othman wins Bentong with a thin majority of 692 votes.

It is a bittersweet victory for the DAP member, who earlier announced that she suffered a miscarriage during the campaign period.

She defeated former MCA president Liow Tiong Lai who contested for BN.

Incumbent MP, Wong Tack, who was sacked from DAP for contesting as an independent in Bentong, lost his deposit.

Wong picked up only 798 votes, the EC says.

Meanwhile, Harapan's Bandar Tun Razak candidate Dr Wan Azizah Ismail wins Bandar Tun Razak.

Zahid’s lead drops to 76 votes, three boxes to go

2.40am: It is a nail-biting contest between Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Harapan’s Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin for the Bagan Datuk seat.

Hero’s welcome for Harapan winners

2.35am: A hero’s welcome greets more Harapan winners arriving in the wee hours at Grand Dorsett Hotel.

Among recent arrivals include Hang Tuah Jaya winner Adam Adli Abdul Halim and Sungai Buloh winner R Ramanan.

Adam defended Hang Tuah Jaya for PKR as former MP Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin holds on to a slim lead against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Bagan Datuk.

Ramanan meanwhile defeats BN's Khairy Jamaluddin, among other candidates.

Harapan supporters continue to gather in the hotel lobby.

Zahid, Shamsul neck and neck in Bagan Datuk

2.25am: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is in a race for survival with six ballot boxes left to be counted for the Bagan Datuk seat in Perak.

He is ahead of his closest rival, Harapan’s Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, by a mere 544 votes.

GRS, GPS to form ‘Borneo bloc’ for federal govt

2.20am: Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Gabungan Parti Sarawak will work together to form a “Borneo bloc”, Malay Mail reports.

This is to help form a federal government with a national coalition that can bring stability to the nation and the most benefit to the two states, the report says.

The report quotes Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor saying he has spoken to Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg on the matter and reached a consensus.

However, he says GRS could not decide which coalition to work with yet, because the full results have yet to be announced by the Election Commission.

Police called after supporters clash

2am: The Kuala Muda district police headquarters in Kedah deployed three light strike force teams to break up a clash between the supporters of different political parties at Dataran Zero.

District police chief Zaidy Che Hassan says a call was received at 2.15am (Nov 19) regarding the incident.

“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 9(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954 for undue influence and Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting,” he adds.

The police did not identify the parties involved.

Like father, like son - Mukhriz loses deposit

1.45am: Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir loses his deposit in Jerlun after PN won the seat with a 20,456-vote majority. The Harapan candidate also loses his deposit.

With Mukhriz and his father Dr Mahathir Mohamad's crushing defeat - their Pejuang party and Gerakan Tanah Air are on course for a total wipeout in the polls.

Confirmed: It’s a hung parliament

1.40am: With 182 out of 220 seats counted, Malaysiakini is declaring a hung Parliament - meaning no single coalition or party is able to form the government on its own.

Harapan is in the lead with 70 seats. However, with just 38 seats left - there is no way for the coalition to secure a simple majority of 111 seats.

Even if Harapan wins the remaining seats, it will only have 108 seats, which is not enough to form a government.

PN is currently in second place with 53 seats while its Sabah counterpart GRS has six seats thus far for a total of 59 seats.

Meanwhile, BN, which called for the early polls, is trailing with just 25 seats so far.

Sarawak's GPS coalition has 22 seats, while Warisan has 2, KDM 1 and 1 independent MP.

Guan Eng: Rest tonight, journey continues tomorrow

1.38am: In Twitter post, DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng thanks Malaysians for their support. He says the journey to “change Malaysia for the better” will continue tomorrow.

“Thank you all Malaysians who have tirelessly joined our incredible journey to change Malaysia for the better. Please take a rest tonight so that we have the strength to continue our journey tomorrow.”

Zahid: BN willing to set aside differences to ensure stable gov't

1.35am: With no clear winner in GE15, BN is indicating that it is willing to join with other coalitions to form a government.

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the coalition is "willing to set aside previous differences in sentiments" to ensure that a stable government is formed.

"BN sees the result of GE15 as a clear signal to us.”

"However, BN will always be committed to contribute to the formation of a stable government and we are willing to set aside previous differences in sentiments," he adds in a statement.

Abang Johari satisfied with GPS’ performance

1.30am: Kuching, Sarawak - GPS chairperson Abang Johari Tun Openg expresses satisfaction with his coalition’s performance.

“Today, confirmed 21 (seats) and we should get two more to make it 23 (seats). This is a very satisfying total,” Bernama quotes him as saying at a press conference.

The seats he is referring to are Limbang and Baram.

The results for Limbang could not be announced because several ballot boxes have yet to reach the tallying centre, while the election in Baram is suspended due to bad weather.

PN captures Perlis

1.26pm: PN has enough seats to form state government in Perlis. The coalition has won 14 out of 15 state assembly seats there, taking the state government from BN.

The victory is part of PN's major sweep in the northern parts of Peninsular Malaysia. The only seat it did not win was Indera Kayangan - which was won by Harapan.

Batu: Prabakaran pulls ahead with commanding lead

1.25am: Harapan incumbent P Prabakaran is in a commanding lead for the Batu seat. He is ahead of his competitors, including the seat’s former MP Tian Chua, with a majority of 14,000 votes. There are still another 60 ballot boxes to count.

Umno leaders, PN leaders hold meeting at separate venues

1.20am: The atmosphere is gloomy at Menara Onn where the Umno headquarters is located. Party leaders are still in a meeting upstairs.

Malacca Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali left the building at about 12.40am without speaking to the media.

Less than 50 BN supporters are present.

An optimistic supporter, who wished to be identified only as Ayun, says the coalition can still return to Putrajaya by forming an alliance.

At the Glenmarie resort in Shah Alam, PN leaders are also holding a meeting. Those present are chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and others.

Harapan trounces Azmin in Gombak

1.17am: Amirudin Shaari officially defeats his former mentor, Azmin Ali in Gombak.

The Harapan candidate wins with a majority of 12,729 seats. The PN candidate picks up 59,538 votes to come in second.

The result is considered a payback as in 2020, then PKR deputy president Azmin led a group of PKR parliamentarians to defect to Bersatu, resulting in the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government.

Ramanan leads in Sungai Buloh, some report he has won

1.15am: R Ramanan has extended his lead against BN's Khairy Jamaluddin, according to the official count.

At 12.45am, the Harapan candidate leads by more than 5,000 votes against the outgoing health minister, with 99 ballot boxes not yet added to the tally.

Some media have reported that Ramanan has won the heated contest, according to unofficial sources.

Umno, BN will hold meetings tomorrow

1.10am: Umno and BN will hold a series of high-level meetings at its headquarters on Sunday, as preliminary results show the coalition taking a beating in the election.

The Umno political bureau meeting will take place at noon together with the state liaison committee chairperson, followed by its supreme council meeting at 3pm.

The BN supreme council will then meet at 8pm, says Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan on Twitter, who describes the meetings as "immediate action".

Ismail Sabri keeps Bera with over 10k majority

1.05am: Caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has unofficially won in Bera.

He currently has an unassailable majority of over 10,000 votes - which his opponents can't catch up to.

This is a huge improvement for Ismail who won the seat in 2018 with just 2,000 votes.

Harapan, PN making waves in different parts of peninsula

1am: A glance at the map of Peninsular Malaysia based on official and unofficial results would show Harapan winning big in the south and west coast, while PN is making huge waves in the north and east coast.

PN is set to win all Parliament seats in Kelantan (14) and Terengganu (8), and is making an impact in Kedah where it has bagged at least five seats according to official results.

Media reports also indicate that PN has made a splash in Perlis and is set to form the state government.

Meanwhile, in the south, Harapan has won 15 seats in Johor, while BN bagged nine and PN two.

Malacca's six seats are also equally divided between PN and Harapan with three each.

The two parties are also racking up wins in Perak with four seats for Harapan and three seats for PN according to Malaysiakini's latest count.

To date, Harapan has won 52 seats, PN 42, while BN has just 20 seats.

Anwar clinches Tambun

12.55am: Ipoh, Perak - Pakatan Harapan chief Anwar Ibrahim clinches Tambun with a majority of 3,736 votes, according to unofficial results.

Anwar defeats his closest rival and former coalition colleague Ahmad Faizal Azumu by garnering 49,625 votes while the latter obtains 45,889 votes.

Meanwhile, BN’s Aminuddin Hanafiah comes in third with 28,140 votes followed by Abdul Rahim Rahir (Pejuang) with 1,115.

All ballot boxes have been counted at 12.49am.

EC stops updating results

12.45am: The Election Commission has stopped announcing official results. Its dashboard has not been updated for at least 20 minutes.

This is how the Malaysiakini tally stands as of 12.45am, according to official and unofficial results in 143 seats:

- Harapan: 52

- PN: 41

- BN: 20

- GPS: 20

- Others: 5

Nurul defeated, Anwar’s legacy in Permatang Pauh ends

12.30am: Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow confirms that Nurul Izzah has lost in Permatang Pauh, bringing an end to Anwar Ibrahim’s legacy in the seat.

To add salt to the wound, it was Nurul's birthday yesterday (Nov 19).

"This is a seat that has long been won by PKR and Harapan. I'm disappointed in that sense, that we lost one seat and a leader," Chow says.

He adds that Harapan has missed its target to retain all 11 seats in Penang.

Harapan was also defeated in Tasek Gelugor and Kepala Batas.

Umno Youth chief falls to PN

12.25am: PN's Fathul Huzir Ayob captured the BN stronghold of Gerik with a 1,377-vote majority with all 91 ballot boxes counted, according to unofficial results.

Fathul had over 15,000 votes, and BN’s Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki over 13,000 votes, while Harapan received 5,779 votes.

BN is also set to lose Padang Rengas to PN, which is leading with a 2,851-vote majority and only two ballot boxes unaccounted for. Padang Rengas was the stronghold of Umno’s Nazri Abdul Aziz, who did not contest.

Bersatu’s Wan Fayhsal captures Machang from BN

12.15am: Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has officially captured Machang, riding on a wave of support for PN in the east coast and northern regions.

He beat BN's two term incumbent Ahmad Jazlan Yaakob with a 10,154 vote majority.

PN has also captured former BN stronghold Jeli, with a 12,464-vote majority.

No clear winner in Perak polls

12.13am: Perak DAP treasurer Howard Lee told the media that there will no press conference today as the results are slow.

“We still have a few seats where the counting is still going on.

“Perak Harapan’s leadership would also need to have a meeting to discuss the current situation before making any announcement,” he says.

It is learned that none of the coalitions managed to get a simple majority in Perak again.

Zuraida loses deposit in Ampang, BN takes Titiwangsa

12:10am: Three-term incumbent MP for Ampang Zuraida Kamaruddin loses the seat as well as her deposit in the nine-way tussle.

Roundly punished for her defection from PKR to Bersatu, the now PBM leader loses to Rodziah Ismail from Harapan.

PN's first-time candidate Sasha Lyna comes in second with 27,072 votes.

Meanwhile, next door in Titiwangsa, Harapan heavyweight and former Federal Territories minister Khalid Samad loses to BN's Johari Abdul Ghani.

Johari was Titiwangsa MP in 2014 to 2018, but he lost to Bersatu's Rina Harun, who defected from Harapan.

Anwar leading in Tambun with 5k votes

12:01am: Ipoh, Perak - Pakatan Harapan chief Anwar Ibrahim is leading in Tambun with close to 5,000 votes, according to unofficial results. He has so far garnered 35,940 votes.

His closest rival PN’s Ahmad Faizal Azumu is trailing with 31,033.

Some 195 out of 280 ballot boxes have been counted.

In the 2018 general election, Faizal ended BN’s seven-term reign in Tambun, defeating Ahmad Husni Hanadziah (BN) and Muhamad Zulkifli Mohamad Zakaria (PAS).

End of an era: Dr M loses deposit in Langkawi

11.53pm: In a massive upset, GTA chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has lost his deposit in Langkawi, a constituency considered his stronghold.

The seat was won by PN's Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah by 13,518, the Election Commission says.

BN came in second while Pakatan Harapan's candidate, who came in third, also lost his deposit.

The former prime minister held the constituency since 2018.

However, Langkawi was his pet project when he was prime minister, heavily investing in the island and turning it into an international tourism destination.

Annuar Musa: Those who fail should step down

11.56pm: “Those who fail should take responsibility and step down”. These are the words of former Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa.

Although he did not mention names, it could be construed as being aimed at Umno president and BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Annuar, who lost the Ketereh seat, also appeared to call for a revival of the Muafakat Nasional coalition following BN’s dismal performance.

“Don’t delay… set aside all ego…

“PN, BN, GPS, GRS and others who were one must now form a consensus (bermuafakat) and form a government. Save the country, religion, and race,” he says on Facebook.

In an earlier post, he laments that he his worst fears are coming true.

“We offered consensus (muafakat), but we were labelled disloyal. We urged not to split, but we suffered the consequences.

“Now where are you bringing us? To form alliances that we rejected? To violate the Umno general assembly and party decisions once more?

“Step down. Enough of this carnage, listen and understand the peoples’ demands,” he says.

Official: Shahidan wins big in Arau

11:50pm: Shahidan Kassim retains the Arau parliament seat in Perlis, winning it for PN after he was dropped as a BN candidate.

According to official results, the former Perlis menteri besar garnered 31, 458 votes whereas BN’s Rozabil Abd Rahman bagged 8, 242 votes. Harapan’s Fathin Amelina Fazlie received 7, 089 voters.

Harapan retains Pulai, JB and Pasir Gudang

11.45pm: Harapan has retained its seats, Pulai, Johor Bahru, and Pasir Gudang in the Johor southern belt and also recaptured Tebrau.

Harapan had won Tebrau in 2018 but its incumbent Steven Choong left PKR in 2020.

Meanwhile, Harapan also won back the Sri Gading seat. Bersatu had won the seat for the coalition in 2018.

Harapan also reclaimed Segamat. Its incumbent Edmund Santhara defected from PKR during the Sheraton Move. He did not contest the seat.

Hadi confident PN will be able to form govt

11.45pm: PAS Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur - PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is confident that PN will form the federal government based on the unofficial results of the 15th general election.

In a press conference, he says PAS will discuss with its coalition partners in forming the cabinet.

"On behalf of Pas, I would like to say a million thanks to all the voters who have put their trust in PAS and coalition partners in Perikatan Nasional, especially young voters, early voters from various races and backgrounds," he says, adding that PN will attempt to fulfill all the offers listed in its manifesto.

On the topic of elections for PAS-led state governments - Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu - which the party chose not to dissolve during GE15, he says the matter will be discussed soon.

The PAS president later arrived at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Resort, where the PN command centre is located, to chants of “ Allahuakbar.”

Harapan leading with 41 seats

11.45pm: Close to midnight, Pakatan Harapan appears to be leading with some 41 seats, according to both official and unofficial counts of 105 seats.

Nurul Izzah staring at defeat in Permatang Pauh

11.37pm: In a potential upset, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar may be heading toward defeat in Permatang Pauh.

According to unofficial counts, the incumbent is trailing PN's Muhammad Fawwaz Mat Jan by about 6,000 votes.

Permatang Pauh is largely seen as the stronghold of Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim's family.

Anwar was first elected there in 1982 and held the seat for five terms until his imprisonment in 1998.

His wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, then won the seat from 1999 to 2008, after which Anwar returned as MP of Permatang Pauh in a by-election.

Wan Azizah was MP there again in 2015 when Anwar was sent to jail for the second time, and passed the baton to Nurul Izzah in 2018.

PN snatches Ketereh from Umno

11.30: PN won a thumping victory in Ketereh, capturing the seat from BN.

PN won the seat by 23,107 votes in the seat.

Umno had dropped incumbent MP Annuar Musa from the seat - believed to be over his opposition to party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Annuar is a proponent of Umno cooperation with PN.

Meanwhile, PAS also retained the Tumpat seat - defeating incumbent Che Abdullah Mat Nawi with a majority of 34,793 votes.

Che Abdullah had won the seat on a PAS ticket in 2018, but was dropped by the party, He then became an 11th-hour BN candidate for the seat.

PN supporters cheer for ‘Abah’

11.25pm: Loud cheers rock the ballroom as the Election Commission announces PN president Muhyiddin Yassin has retained his Pagoh seat.

Some 50 PN candidates and party members watching the live telecast on a big screen in the ballroom shout "Perikatan Nasional!" and "Takbir!", before chanting "Abah!" repeatedly.

Dr Dzul retains Kuala Selangor, defeats Tengku Zafrul

11.20pm: Harapan's Dzulkefly Ahmad has unofficially retained the Kuala Selangor seat.

With 181 out of 182 ballot boxes counted, Dzulkefly is in the lead with a 1,172- vote majority over BN's Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Meanwhile, Harapan's Rafizi Ramli and Akmal Nasir have officially retained Pandan and Johor Bahru respectively.

Harapan loses Alor Setar to PN

11.20pm: Harapan has lost the seat of Alor Setar in Kedah, which PKR has held for two terms and won by a large margin in GE14.

Its candidate Simon Ooi was defeated by PN's Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin by at least 9,000 votes, according to official results.

Meanwhile, Harapan's Lim Lip Eng wins Kepong with an overwhelming 61,081 votes.

All other candidates in Kepong lost their deposits.

Ku Li loses Gua Musang to PAS

11.20pm: Malaysia's longest serving MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has officially been defeated in Gua Musang after being in Parliament since 1974.

He had held Gua Musang for most of those years, since 1986. PAS captured the seat with a razor-thin majority of 163 votes.

Both PAS and BN bagged over 21,000 votes in the seat while Harapan came in third with just 4,517 votes.

Hadi retains Marang, Harapan picks up Ledang

11.15pm: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang extends his winning streak in Marang, retaining the seat with a majority of 39,095 votes, according to official sources.

BN's Jasmira Othman comes in second while the Harapan candidate Azhar Ab Shukor is decimated, picking up just 3,816 votes. GTA's Zarawi Sulong gets only 390 votes.

Meanwhile, Harapan's Syed Ibrahim Syed Nor wins in Ledang, Oriental Daily reports.

Syed Saddiq expected to be Muda’s sole winner

11.15pm: Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman may be the sole candidate from his party to win a seat.

Official results show the other Muda candidates losing in Tanjung Piai, Masjid Tanah and Tanjong Karang.

In Tanjung Piai, Muda vice-president Lim Wei Jiet lost by 6,360 votes to incumbent Wee Jeck Seng from BN

Results for Muda's remaining candidate Shahrizal Denci in Kota Marudu has yet to be declared and Malaysiakini has no access to unofficial results there.

Unofficial: Ex-Malacca CM beats Umno info chief

11.10pm: Former Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari has unofficially won in Alor Gajah.

The Harapan candidate, who has around 28,000 votes as of the latest count has been maintaining a 2,000 plus majority against Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan Suffian.

Incumbent Redzuan Yusof is in third with about 16,505 votes at the moment.

Official: PN defeats Umno veep Mahdzir, Hisham wins

11.05pm: Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khaled has lost Padang Terap to PN.

PN won the seat with 28,217 votes and a 10,959 majority over Mahdzir's 17,258 votes.

Harapan came in far behind with just 2,702 votes while Pejuang had 452 votes.

Meanwhile, Hishamuddin Hussein retains his Sembrong seat with a 10,880-vote majority.

Azmin trailing by 11k votes, 14 ballot boxes left

10.55pm: As of 10.50pm, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari is leading Gombak incumbent Azmin Ali by more than 11,000 votes. The Harapan candidate has 53,206 votes whereas Azmin has 41,329 votes.

There are 14 ballot boxes to be counted.

PN wins in Masjid Tanah and Tanjong Karang

10.52pm: Masjid Tanah incumbent Mas Ermieyati Shamsuddin, who is from PN, retains the seats with a 4,411-vote majority.

Mas had been a two-term BN MP for the seat before she leaving the party in 2018 and later joining Bersatu.

Meanwhile, PN also captures the Tanjong Karang seat from BN with a 2,180-vote majority.

In both Tanjong Karang and Masjid Tanah, BN was in second place while Muda came in third.

Official: Muhyiddin wins Pagoh with 10k majority

10.50pm: PN chief Muhyiddin Yassin retains Pagoh with a 10,007-vote majority. However, his vote share decreased to 45.9 percent of the total votes.

Muhyiddin secured 24,986 votes, followed by Harapan with 14,979 votes and BN with 14,426 votes.

Unofficial: Harapan keeps Lembah Pantai, Pejuang loses deposit

10.45pm: Harapan's Fahmi Fadzil retains his Lembah Pantai seat with a majority of more than 13,000 votes, according to unofficial count.

He defeats BN's Ramlan Shahean @ Askolani and PN's Fauzi Abu Bakar.

DAP retains 10 state seats in Perak

10.40pm: Ipoh, Perak - DAP appears to have retained 10 state seats by garnering over 15,000 votes respectively, according to unofficial results.

The seats are:

- Jalong (15,864)

- Pokok Assam (16,518)

- Aulong (16,787)

- Pantai Remis (19,538)

- Pasir Bedamar (21,061)

- Buntong (21,121)

- Astaka (21,136)

- Jelapang (21,552)

- Canning (22,111)

- Menglembu (22,903)

All these seats were won by DAP in GE14.

Before the dissolution, Pakatan Harapan has 23 seats – DAP, 15, Amanah, 5, and PKR, 3 – in the 59-seat state assembly.

Meanwhile, the ruling PN-BN coalition had 35 seats – BN, 25, PN, 8 and PBM (Parti Bangsa Malaysia), 2.

Official: Larry Sng retains Julau

10.35pm: PBM leader Larry Sng retains his Julau parliament seat with a 1,340-vote majority.

Sng won the seat as an independent in 2018 before joining PKR and later defecting after the Sheraton Move.

In Lubok Antu, GPS has captured the seat from incumbent Jugah Muyang.

Like Sng, Jugah also won the seat in 2018 as an independent, before joining PKR and then quitting in 2020 and joining Bersatu.

Meanwhile, DAP's Mordi Bimol has retained the Mas Gading seat for Harapan.

Over in Puncak Borneo, former PKR incumbent Willie Anak Mongin - who quit PKR during the Sheraton Move - has officially retained the seat under the GPS banner.

Warisan's Leiking loses Penampang to Harapan

10.32pm: Harapan's Ewon Benedick stages an upset by defeating the incumbent Warisan's Darell Leiking in Penampang by a majority of 14,410 votes.

According to official results, Ewon picked up 29,066 votes against Leiking's 14,656.

GRS' Kenny Chua picked up 6,719 votes while independent candidate Richard Jimmy lost his deposit.

Meanwhile, the EC declares PN the winner in Labuan.

Suhaili Abdul Rahman picked up 8,124 votes with a slim majority of 708 votes, with BN's Bashir Alias coming in second.

In Tawau, Harapan's candidate and incumbent Christina Liew loses her seat to GRS' Lo Su Fui, according to unofficial results..

Video surfaces of Dr Dzul celebrating

10.30pm: Although there are no official results for the Kuala Selangor seat, a video is making the rounds showing Harapan candidate Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, flanked by supporters, raising his hands in celebration.

Dzulkefly’s main opponent for the parliament seat is caretaker finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz from BN, who is making his electoral debut.

Syed Saddiq to win Muar, Harapan takes Sekijang

10.25pm: Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is set to win in Muar.

With 130 out of 132 ballot boxes counted, Saddiq has a 1,173-vote majority. Trailing close is Johor PAS chief Abdullah Hussein with 18,276 votes.

BN is in third place with 14,411 votes.

Meanwhile, PKR also officially won the Sekijang seat, with a 1,734 vote majority.

‘Defector’ Rashid loses Batu Pahat seat to Harapan

10.15pm: Outgoing Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Rashid Hasnon fails to retain the Batu Pahat seat.

Unofficial results show that Harapan candidate Onn Abu Bakar is leading with an unassailable 15,000-vote majority.

Onn has 41,880 votes while Rashid - who is with Bersatu - has 25,949 votes.

BN is in third place with 21,749 votes while Pejuang has 381 votes and PRM 266 votes.

Rashid won Batu Pahat under PKR in 2018 before defecting in 2020 during the Sheraron Move.

Zahid indicates need for alliance to form govt

10.15pm: Based on the current situation, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the coalition may need to form an alliance to form the government.

"Not yet," he tells Malaysiakini in a text message when asked if he is confident that BN can form the government on its own.

"Most likely by forming an alliance," he adds when quizzed further.

Ahmad Maslan retains Pontian, Azalina wins Pengerang

10.10pm: Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan has retained Pontian, according to unofficial results.

Ahmad has 23,201 votes, followed by PN with 17,443 votes.

Harapan came in third with 15,901 votes, while Pejuang had 306 votes.

Meanwhile, Pengerang incumbent Azalina Othman Said officially wins her seat.

Negeri MB unleashes tsunami in PD, drowns MIC candidate

10.05pm: Harapan's candidate for the Port Dickson seat, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, scores a landslide win.

Unofficial numbers show he is leading with a majority of more than 38,000 votes. BN's P Kamalanathan is trailing second with 18,827 votes.

This is PKR's first win in the seat which was formerly held by its president Anwar Ibrahim.

Ali Biju retains Saratok

10.03pm: Bersatu's Ali Biju has officially retained his Saratok seat. Ali first won the seat in 2018 as a PKR candidate. He defected in 2020 during the Sheraton Move.

According to official results, Ali bagged 19,223 votes and won with a 8,826-vote majority.

GPS came in second with 10,397 votes while Harapan trailed far behind with just 1,221 votes.

‘Welcome to Subang’ - Wong Chen declares victory

10.02pm: "Welcome to Subang everybody," says Harapan’s Subang candidate Wong Chen as he joins other candidates at the Grand Dorsett Hotel.

The incumbent tells reporters he expects to defend his seat after unofficial results show that he has crossed the 51 percent mark at around 9.45pm.

"We can expect official numbers soon but for now I have crossed the 51 percent threshold," he says.

Hamzah arrives at PN’s command centre

10.00pm: Glenmarie Golf and Country Resort - PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin arrives at the coalition's command centre.

His vehicle is seen entering the compound but does not stop at the grand ballroom, where the media is stationed.

Anwar ahead in Tambun, Peja second

9.50pm: Ipoh, Perak – Unofficial results show that Anwar Ibrahim is leading his opponents in Tambun.

Anwar is ahead with 8,254 votes whereas Perak PN chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu has 8,009 votes followed by BN’s Aminuddin Md Hanafiah (4,771) and Pejuang’s Abdul Rahim Tahir (161).

This is after 55 out of 280 ballot boxes were counted.

Unofficial: Maszlee falls to ex-MB in Sg Renggam

9.50pm: Unofficial results from the EC indicates that former Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad has won Simpang Renggam.

With 110 out of 111 ballot boxes counted, Hasni is almost 2,000 votes ahead over the Harapan incumbent Maszlee Malik.

Malaysiakini's calculations indicate that Hasni has a winning majority and Maszlee is unlikely to catch up.

PN has 9,007 votes while Pejuang has 246 votes.

Zahid leads in Bagan Datuk, 103 ballot boxes to go

9.45pm: After 22 of 125 boxes were counted, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is leading in Bagan Datuk with 2,157 votes in the four-way tussle. Harapan’s Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin is in second with 1,455 votes.

Taib’s daughter retains Mukah with landslide win

9.43pm: The EC declares that Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud's daughter Hanifah Hajar Taib has retained Mukah with a landslide majority of more than 15,000 votes.

The GPS candidate picked up 21, 733 votes in a straight fight against Harapan's Abdul Jalil Bujang who bagged 6,047 votes.

The EC also declares that GPS is the winner in Lawas.

Meanwhile, unofficial numbers show GPS is headed for victories in Kapit and Santubong, assuming the turnout is about 60 percent, consistent with other Sarawak seats.

Harapan retains three seats in Johor

9.40pm: Harapan has retained three seats in Johor, according to unofficial results. The seats are Iskandar Puteri (Liew Chin Tong), Kulai (Teo Nie Ching) and Labis (Pang Hok Liong).

In Labis, Pang claims to have won with a majority of 1,206 votes against MCA's Chua Tee Yong.

Muda celebrates despite close fight in Muar

9.35pm: Muda is celebrating in Muar although unofficial results indicate a close fight between incumbent Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Johor PAS chief Abdullah Hussein.

The Muda Muar account tweeted "Alhamdulillah (thank God), thank you Muar" while Syed Saddiq tweeted a hashtag that reads "Muar is ours".

Unofficial: Shahidan leads in Arau

9.30pm: Arau incumbent Shahidan Kassim, who is contesting under the PN ticket after being dropped by Umno, is leading with 2,995 votes against BN’s Rozabil Abd Rahman 891 and Harapan’s Fathin Amelina 783.

PN leads in all eight seats in Terengganu

9.20pm: PN is heading towards a clean sweep in Terengganu – it is leading in all eight parliamentary seats in the state, according to unofficial count.

The seats are:

- Setiu (10,804 votes)

- Kuala Nerus (24,805 votes)

- Kuala Terengganu (23,998 votes)

- Marang (38,287 votes)

All these seats were won by PAS in GE14, except for Besut which was won by BN.

He has taken more than half of the estimated total votes, according to DAP sources.

In Sarawak, Harapan's Bandar Kuching candidate Kelvin Yii retains his seat, based on unofficial vote count.

MCA president Wee holds on to Ayer Hitam

9pm: MCA president Wee Ka Siong has retained the Ayer Hitam seat, according to unofficial results.

With just about 1,200 votes uncounted, Wee is leading by 2,524 votes.

Latest results from MCA has Wee bagging 17,833 votes, while Harapan's Sheikh Omar has 15,309.

PN's candidate Muhammad Syafiq Aziz has 10,953.

It looks like Wee has increased his majority at the 2018 general election, where he narrowly defeated DAP’s Liew Chin Tong by 303 votes.

Harapan retains three seats in Penang, one in KL

8.55pm: Pakatan Harapan has won the seats of Bagan, Tanjong and Bukit Mertajam in Penang, and Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur according to unofficial count.

Bagan is won by the DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng while Tanjong is won by his sister, Lim Hui Ying.

Bukit Mertajam is won by Steven Sim, while Bukit Bintang by Fong Kui Lin.

These seats are DAP strongholds.

Azmin falls further behind, Harapan increases lead to 5k votes

8.50pm: Harapan's lead in Gombak widens to about 5,000 votes.

According to the unofficial count, Amirudin Shari has picked up 17,033 votes, followed by PN's Azmin Ali with 11,262 votes.

BN is third with 6,822 votes while Gerakan Tanah Air Jamaludin Md Tahir and independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad have received 520 votes and 132 votes respectively.

Official: GPS wins Igan

8.45pm: GPS' Ahmad Johnie Zawawi bagged 15,824 votes and has a majority of 14,662 votes against his Harapan opponent Hud Andri. The latter has lost his deposit.

PKR leading in 22 seats

8.45pm: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli says the party is leading in 22 seats while BN and PN are leading in seven respectively. This is based on unofficial results sourced through his data analytics company, Invoke's application, Cista.

Tight race in Alor Gajah

8.42pm: Unofficial results from Amanah places former Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari in the lead with 14,668 votes after almost half of the ballots counted.

However, Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan Sufian is close behind with 13,466 votes.

PN incumbent, former minister Redzuan Yusof, is trailing in third place with 7,363 votes.

MCA president overtakes DAP challenger, 1k vote lead

8.40pm: MCA president Wee Ka Siong has a 1,000-vote lead in Ayer Hitam against Harapan, with almost 80 percent of ballots counted according to unofficial results.

Wee has 14,898 vote, while DAP's Sheikh Omar Bagharib Ali has 13,845 votes.

PN is in third place with 8,900 votes.

GPS wins second seat - Tanjong Manis

8.35pm: According to numbers released by Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak, the GPS candidate Yusof Abdul Ahmad has enough votes to win Tanjong Manis.

Yusof, the incumbent from PBB, is leading with 11,046 votes in a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan's Zainab Suhaili.

Two-thirds of the votes have been counted, and based on the number of voters and estimated turnout, Zainab will not be able to close the gap.

Unofficial: Harapan leading in Batu Pahat, PN second, BN third

8.35pm: Unofficial results from PKR put Harapan in the lead in Batu Pahat, with 29,591 votes out of 61 percent of ballots counted so far.

PN incumbent Rashid Hasnon - who defected from PKR in 2020 - is reportedly trailing in second place with 15,618 votes.

BN is in third place with 12,972 votes, while PRM has just 196 votes.

LSF personnel deployed outside Klang school

8.32pm: Klang, Selangor - Two teams of police Light Strike Force (LSF) are on standby outside the Kolej Vokasional Klang to ensure there is no repeat of what took place in 2018 when voters protested alleged interference with the ballots.

The LSF and a convoy of police cars will accompany Election Commission officers carrying the ballot boxes to the Klang Municipal Council Hamzah Hall.

Earlier this evening, just before voting ended at 6pm, a crowd started to gather outside the government vocational school in Bayu Perdana cheering and waving flags at passing cars that honked in support.

The vocational school is one of the two largest voting centres in the constituency.

8.30pm: Flashing a wide smile, Bersatu deputy president Mohd Faizal Azumu arrives at Glenmarie Golf and Country Resort in Shah Alam. PN is using the grand ballroom as its command centre.

The former Perak menteri besar is locking horns with Harapan chairperson and the coalition’s prime minister candidate Anwar Ibrahim for the Tambun parliament seat in Perak.

Padang Serai voters unaware of postponement

8.25pm: Padang Serai, Kedah - Bernama reports that some Padang Serai voters are unaware the election there had been postponed and turned up at polling centres to vote.

One hearing-impaired voter reportedly handed a piece of paper to its reporter with the question why the polling centre was closed, after driving 14km from Bukit Mertajam with his family to vote.

The voter Saad-Idi Ismail, 43, reportedly looked shocked when told the election was postponed following PKR candidate M Karupaiya's death.

Another voter Low Teck Chai, 28, reportedly tells Bernama he knew of Karupaiya's death but was not aware of the postponement.

A security guard at the SK Sri Limau polling centre says about 40 voters turned up as of 3pm.

“Pity them. There was also a family from Kuala Lumpur,” the guard Muhammad Zuhairi Asri is quoted as saying.

Fadillah wins Petra Jaya for GPS

8.23pm: Outgoing works minister Fadillah Yusof has unofficially won Petra Jaya for GPS with 44,906 votes - crossing the 50 percent vote threshold.

Harapan is trailing behind by 34,000 votes, while KDM has just 862 votes.

The Sarawak public communications unit (Ukas) - a state government entity - is also reporting that GPS is leading in several seats.

In Kota Samarahan, GPS incumbent Rubiah Wang is reportedly 16 votes ahead of Harapan. In Batang Sadong, unofficial results place GPS with a 8,000-vote lead against Harapan.

Amirudin extends his lead over Azmin

8.20pm: As of 8.17pm, Harapan candidate Amirudin Shari is more than 4,000 votes ahead of PN’s Azmin Ali in the battle for Gombak. The Selangor menteri besar has 12,687 votes and Azmin 8,157.

In third is BN’s Megat Zulkarnain with 5,220 votes.

Issues with vote tally in Segambut

8.15pm: In the Harapan stronghold, incumbent Hannah Yeoh says the party is unable to release unofficial results from polling stations.

She says the presiding officers in the polling stations do not want to sign the Form 14 of Harapan's polling and counting agents, she adds on Twitter.

Form 14 is also known as “Borang Penyata Pengundian Selepas Pengiraan Undi” and shows the total number of votes counted.

The form is signed by the presiding officers at a polling station to confirm the tally at that station.

Syed Saddiq arrives at Grand Dorsett

8.12pm: Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman arrives at the Grand Dorsett Hotel to join other Harapan leaders and candidates.

Others present are Pasir Gudang candidate Hassan Karim and Putrajaya candidate Dr Noraisyah Mydin Abdul Aziz.

Unofficial: S’gor MB ahead of Azmin in Gombak

8.10pm: Pakatan Harapan claims its candidate, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, is ahead of the incumbent from PN, Azmin Ali, in the race for the Gombak parliament seat.

As of 8pm, Amiruddin bagged 8,980 votes and Azmin 5,99I. Whereas the candidate from BN has 3,927 votes.

EC worker dies on the job

8pm: An EC staff member died while on duty at a polling station in Klang this afternoon, police say.

The 45-year-old man fainted while on duty at Sekolah ACS Methodist Jalan Raya Barat and was sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in an ambulance.

He died in the emergency room and the cause of death is yet to be determined.

According to the deceased's wife, he had heart disease.

Unofficial: Harapan leading in Pasir Gudang

7.50pm: Unofficial results from Pakatan Harapan shows that its candidate is in the lead for the Pasir Gudang parliament seat in Johor.

PKR incumbent MP Hassan Karim has 7,066 votes, BN 3,548 votes, PN 2,004 votes and Pejuang 74 votes.

In other words, Hassan Karim has a 3,518-vote majority.

Unofficial: DAP leads against MCA president, ex-president’s son

7.46pm: DAP has taken back the lead from BN in Labis, with about half of the total votes counted.

DAP's Pang Hok Liang now has 7,365 votes, DAP sources show.

BN's Chua Tee Yong trails with 6,004 votes followed by PN's Alvin Chang with 2,174.

In Ayer Itam, DAP's Sheikh Umar Baghraib Ali has a slight lead against BN's Wee Ka Siong and PN's Muhammad Syafiq A Aziz, with about two-thirds of ballots to be counted.

Meanwhile, DAP's numbers show the party is also leading in Kota Melaka, Bukit Bintang, Bakri, Rasah and Ayer Itam.

Pahang turnout at 75.62 percent

7.42pm: The total turnout for Pahang is 75.62 percent. The Election Commission is yet to announce the national turnout at the close of polling. At 4pm, it was 70 percent.

DAP claims it is pulling ahead in Sibu

7.35pm: Unofficial reports from DAP put it in the lead in Sibu with 19,230 votes while GPS has 11,159 votes. PSB president Wong Soon Koh is trailing with just 4,575 votes thus far.

DAP also claims to have a 6,600-vote lead in Bandar Kuching, bagging 10,029 votes at the time of writing. GPS is trailing in Bandar Kuching with just 3,438 votes while PSB has 374 votes.

Grand ballroom is PN’s command centre

7.30pm: Glenmarie Golf and Country Resort, Shah Alam - PN is using the grand ballroom as its command centre to monitor the election results.

So far, only party workers are at the premises ensuring everything is in order before the leaders arrive. There is also a big screen to display live updates from counting centres nationwide.

According to a party official, PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin and other leaders will arrive after the Maghrib prayers.

Harapan leaders ditch Sheraton for Grand Dorsett

7.25pm: Harapan leaders have gathered at the Grand Dorsett Hotel in Subang Jaya, where unofficial results are displayed on a large screen.

Tables are set up for the media outside the hall while leaders and candidates will be meeting in the ballroom.

Security personnel ensure that only media and authorised party members are allowed into the designated area.

The mood so far remains calm and a sprinkling of supporters are in the lobby.

In the previous election, Harapan leaders were at the Sheraton Hotel when it was announced that the coalition won the polls. Twenty-two months later, the same venue had sealed Harapan’s fate.

Baru Bian has 310-vote lead with 5 ballot boxes to go

7.20pm: Unofficial results reported by Bernama puts PSB's Baru Bian in the lead for the Lawas seat with 310 votes after 77 out of 82 ballot boxes had been counted.

Baru was formerly with PKR, before leaving the party during the Sheraton Move.

However, he did not join or support the PN-BN government, and instead joined PSB - which is the biggest opposition party in Sarawak.

Baru's opponents in Lawas are outgoing deputy transport minister Henry Sum Agong from GPS and Harapan's Japar Suyut.

Johor’s final turnout at 72.66pct

7.10pm: This is 17.75 percent higher than the turnout during the Johor state election in March. In terms of actual numbers, it is 2.6 million. This is 1.2 million more than the state election.

The results of the Johor state election served as one of the main reasons for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to push for a general election in order to capitalise on the swing in support for BN.

Hung Parliament - Bersih's 10 recommendations

6.50pm: The proposals are:

1) A government is formed through cross-party negotiations by party leaders, and not through statutory declarations or interviews with individual MPs This is to avoid dragging Istana Negara into the fray.

2) The biggest block gets priority to form government first, and is given a timespan to do so. Once that period ends, it will be the turn of the second-biggest block to attempt to form the government.

3) Parties who form governments will roll out policies guided by their respective manifestos.

4) The government should serve a full term with a comfortable majority to instil public confidence.

5) A vote of confidence in the prime minister in Parliament within two weeks of appointment, to bolster the government's legitimacy and prevent attempts to unseat him.

6) All agreements to supply confidence or form coalitions to be made public.

7) The formation and recognition of a shadow cabinet with commensurate salaries and resources.

8) Legislation to ensure equitable distribution of development funds to constituencies, to ensure a level playing field.

9) The Political Financing Act, mooted under the Najib Abdul Razak, Mahathir Mohamad and Ismail Sabri Yaakob administrations, be passed in Parliament. It must include public funding for political parties based on vote share at the last election.

10) Separation of public prosecution from the tAttorney General's Chambers to protect coalition governments from allegations of unchecked power, and for existing court cases to go one uninterrupted. All MPs with pending court cases should stay out of cabinet.

VoteM’sia delivers 35k ballots from overseas

6.45pm: The VoteMalaysia movement says it has successfully brought home 35,092 ballot papers from 25 countries, and then delivered it to returning officers in 216 constituencies nationwide.

This amounts to 73 percent of all Category 1B postal voters registered with the Election Commission.

Voter claims someone else voted in his name

6.40pm: Lembah Pantai: A voter claims he was barred from voting because someone voted in his name.

The man, who identified himself as Jega, says he tried to vote at SK Petaling 1 & 2.

"When I was in the polling room, I found someone had voted in my name.

"When I checked, it turns out the other person's IC number was different but he had voted using my name," he says in a video circulated to the media by Pakatan Harapan's Lembah Pantai campaign team.

The incensed voter says he will lodge a police report.

Besides Jega, another voter in Rawang had a similar experience and lodged a police report.

Hardly any BN supporters at WTC

6.35pm: World Trade Centre (WTC), Kuala Lumpur - Four giant screens have been placed in the Tun Hussein Onn Hall for BN leaders to monitor the election results.

Unlike previous polls, there are hardly any supporters in sight for now.

Turnout rate at 70pct as of 4pm

6.30pm: In terms of total voters, this is 2.5 million more than the number of voters who cast their ballots in the watershed 2018 polls.

The Election Commission has yet to release the turnout rates for 5pm and 6pm.

Unofficial tallies trickle in for Sibu, Labis

6.20pm: In Sibu, Astro Awani reports that GPS‘ Clarence Ting is leading with 2,332 votes, while DAP's Oscar Ling is trailing with1,670 votes and PSB's Wong Soon Koh is last with 1,624 votes.

But it is still very early in the count. This is less than five percent of the total registered voters in Sibu.

Meanwhile, in Labis, BN's Chua Tee Yong is leading, garnering 388 votes, trailing is Harapan's Pang Hok Liang with 249 votes and PN's Alvin Chang with 72 votes, Awani reports.

This is less than one percent of total registered voters.

Chua is the son of former MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek.
