Muhyiddin: Gov't yet to decide on protection for Hamid
Putrajaya has yet to decide whether it will provide protection for Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer over his exposure of alleged judicial misconduct, Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
"Well, it depends, we have not yet reached that point," the home minister told the media in Semenyih.
However, he advised Hamid to lodge a report to the relevant authorities to seek protection.
"I think there is a need for the report to be filed by him, to be actually pursued by police, other agencies involved, the MACC... or whatever it is, I don't know.
"And, we will see how important and serious it is, and whether there is some necessity to give some form of protection.
"At this moment, I don't think I can answer," he said.
On Feb 14, Hamid claimed that certain members of the judiciary aided private parties to defraud the government.
He said this in an affidavit filed in support of lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo's application to declare that the chief justice had failed to defend the integrity of the judiciary over two instances of alleged judicial interference.
Hamid said he was willing to reveal more if a royal commission of inquiry is formed to look into the matter, but expressed regret that chief justice Richard Malanjum is not seeking an RCI.
