EC chief: Elections aren't a battlefield, show some manners

SEMENYIH POLLS | Election Commission chief Azhar Azizan Harun has called for all parties contesting in the Semenyih by-election to mind their manners.

"Always be respectful, and follow the police's instructions in order to keep the peace at all times.

"An election isn't a battlefield. Let us all show to the world that we are mature and have manners," he tweeted.

Azhar's comments come after nomination day for the Semenyih by-election was marred by several incidents.

Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was allegedly almost assaulted by BN supporters after nominations ended.

Meanwhile, PSM was also heckled by BN supporters who shouted 'hancing' (foul-smelling) and 'anjing' (dog) at them as they marched to the nomination centre.

The Semenyih by-election is a four-cornered contest between Bersatu, BN, PSM and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng.

Polling day is on March 2.
