Education Ministry to continue allowances for teacher trainees
The Education Ministry has announced that it will continue to provide a monthly living allowance of RM430 to students enrolled in the Teacher Education Institute’s undergraduate teaching degree programme (PISMP).
On top of that, it will also provide a travel allowance of up to RM500 once a year for the students.
In a statement, the ministry says that the allowance will be deposited into the students' accounts before the end of February.
The allowance is a continuation of the previous BN government’s policy under then education minister Mahdzir Khalid, amid discussions with the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) to convert the allowances into loans in 2017.
The Education Ministry, now helmed by Maszlee Malik, further stated that it is always concerned about the welfare of teacher trainees, in its efforts to produce more competent and high-quality teachers.
