After Twitter user, police nab Facebook user for insulting Islam
Police have arrested a Facebook account holder for allegedly uploading offensive comments against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.
Police said the suspect was picked up to assist investigations under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.
Section 298A of the Penal Code relates to actions which could cause disharmony, feelings of enmity, ill will, or prejudice on grounds of religion, while Section 233 of the CMA relates to the posting of offensive content.
"Application for remand for the 28-year-old suspect will be made today," read the statement by Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
"The police advise the public not to misuse social media or any communications network to upload or share any provocation which touches on religious and racial sensitivities, which could lead to racial tensions," he added.
Today's arrest came after police reportedly arrested a 43-year-old Twitter account holder yesterday for a similar offence.
