Umno: Kit Siang should use '10-year jail' to educate DAP supporters
Umno information chief Shamsul Anuar Nasarah has criticised DAP's Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang for suggesting that the 10-year jail sentence against a Facebook user who pleaded guilty to insulting Islam was excessive.
Shamsul said there was no need for Lim to question the court's decision and that he should instead use the punishment to educate people against insulting religion.
"Kit Siang should use the punishment as a lesson for the rakyat, in particular, DAP followers and the Red Bean Army, not to demonise Islam, Allah and insult the Prophet Muhammad," he said in a statement.
Umno had previously branded cyber troopers from DAP as "Red Bean Army".
Shamsul also accused Lim of taking insults against Islam lightly.
"Kit Siang should walk the talk. If peace and racial unity are to be maintained, all quarters must act to ensure our unity is not turned into chaos.
"Racial harmony, religious tolerance and mutual respect among the races were built by BN since independence.
"Unfortunately it has been disrupted by Harapan, which is dominated by the DAP, as soon as taking over the government since May 2018," he said.
Earlier today, Lim said all Malaysians must uphold the Federal Constitution and respect all religions in the country.
However, he said the 10-year imprisonment was too excessive.
