The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry today approved a RM4.3 million allocation for Langkawi and Kulim to help improve the beauty, infrastructure and facilities in the area.

Its minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the allocation was approved immediately, with RM3.3 million going to Langkawi in view of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima’19) starting on Tuesday.

“A total of RM2.8 million has been set aside for lighting up the tourist island while RM500,000 is to ensure the cleanliness in Langkawi is maintained in conjunction with Lima’19.

“For Kulim, RM500,000 has been allocated for the building of trash traps in monsoon drain areas while another RM500,000 is for the construction of facilities in surau, toilets and a food court at the Bandar Kulim Bus Station,” she told reporters today.

Earlier, Zuraida held a meeting with state Industrial and Investment, Local Government and Housing Committee chairman Tan Kok Yew and 12 heads of local authorities to discuss problems they faced in each district.

Zuraida hoped that the provisions would help Langkawi and Kulim to resolve matters which needed to be speeded up for the wellbeing of local communities.
