Adib case: MP accused of threatening nurse files police report

This article is 6 years old

Kangar MP Noor Amin Ahmad has lodged a police report against Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam.

This was after Lokman accused the PKR lawmaker of threatening a nurse who disputed Hospital Kuala Lumpur forensics specialist Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi's testimony at the inquest for the late firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Hafizam had said the injuries sustained by Adib in the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riot on Nov 27 were likely due to him being hit by a vehicle.

However, the nurse known as “Miera”, who claims to work at the National Heart Institute (IJN), had taken to social media to insist that she saw bruising consistent with an assault.

Amin said he had contacted the nurse to ask that she provide her version of events by testifying at the inquest, but was accused by Lokman of threatening her.

"I had asked the girl to provide a statement and not to hide the truth if it is true," Amin was quoted as saying by Bernama after lodging the police report at the Kangar district police headquarters.

Amin accused Lokman of slander, which he said could lead to threats against him.

"I did not intimidate or threaten the individual," he said. "Lokman's accusation could have a major implication and disrupt police investigations."

Amin also again urged Miera to come forward and testify at the inquest.

Adib passed away on Dec 17 after succumbing to his injuries.
