The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has signed seven procurement and industrial collaboration programme contracts worth RM3.67 billion at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2019 (LIMA’19).

Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu said most of the procurement contracts were for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for existing strategic defence assets.

"This is to ensure that the country’s current security and defence readiness is at an optimum level," he told reporters after witnessing the signing ceremony here today.

He said the ministry has signed 31 contracts and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) during LIMA’19.

Going forward, he said the government would continue to consider the procurement of new strategic defence assets, taking into account the current technological advancement and non-traditional security threats.

According to a statement by the MOD, one of the biggest deals was Airod Sdn Bhd’s maintenance contract for the combined maintenance of the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s (RMAF) VIP/VVIP aircraft, consisting of Falcon 900, Global Express and BlackHawk S70A.

It said the Airod was also awarded a contract for maintenance, overhaul, testing, calibration, repair, defect rectification, modification of articles, technical assistance, fabrication and supply of materials for government aircraft and equipment, RMAF Hawk MK108/208, RMAF C130 aircraft and equipment.

LIMA'19, which is held from March 26-30 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Center (MIEC) and Resorts World Langkawi (RWL), features 406 companies, mostly from defence-related industries.
