10 workers killed after factory bus plunges into monsoon drain
Ten people on their way to work were killed when a bus they were travelling in plunged into a monsoon drain near the MASKargo area in Sepang last night.
KLIA district police chief Zulkifli Adamshah said nine of the victims, comprising eight foreign workers and the local driver, died on the spot in the crash that occurred at about 11.10pm.
Another victim, a foreign national, died during treatment at Serdang Hospital, Zulkifli said when contacted in Putrajaya today.
He said a preliminary investigation found that the bus was carrying 43 MASKargo contract workers, who are all foreigners, from their hostel in Nilai to their workplace when the crash occurred.
He said the injured victims were sent to Serdang Hospital, Putrajaya Hospital, Banting Hospital and Kajang Hospital for treatment.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, he added.
'No brake marks'
Selangor police chief Noor Azam Jamaludin, meanwhile, said there were no brake marks found at the crash site.
"Early checks did not reveal any signs of braking at the scene. Further investigations are underway to determine whether the bus driver was on drugs or sleepy when the accident occurred.
"Updates on this case will be issued from time to time," he told reporters when met at the Selangor police headquarters today.
